Interzone: June 21, 2005: Time Capsule IV - 1980

Hello,

Join me this week for another trip into the Time Capsule. This week I'll be going back 25 years to explore music from the year 1980. The Time Capsule shows will focus on various music all released in a particular year. However, generally I will be avoiding some of the more obvious selections and focusing on a mix of somewhat obscure music from that time or perhaps just some things you’ve forgotten about, hoping that even experienced listeners will find something new of interest.

1980 was one of those years progressive rock fans like to refer to as “the dark ages”. Most of their favorite 70s bands have either disbanded or have gone commercial. Interest in new bands were minimal. It was still a few years until we’d hear from the original neo-prog bands like Marillion and IQ. There was no internet, and fans would begin to lose touch with one another.

In that sense, it was a Dark Age. But musically, there were still lots of bands making great music at that time. Notably in countries like France and Spain, the last few years produced some of the best albums each of those countries had to offer.

Playlist to come...

- Cozy
