in the album STRINGS FROM THE EDGE OF SOUND there are many versions of previous songs rearranged with the orchestra which are very beautiful but since they are not songs from 2023 I don't take them into consideration for my list ABOUT KARMAMOI ...from official site In 2008 inspired by old and new progressive rock music, drummer and composer Daniele Giovannoni created KARMAMOI, giving life to a musical project that was able to express his idea of music. 2008 – 2011: The band performed in many shows in Italy and Europe, including the Jimi Festival in France and the Eurosonic Showcase Festival in the Netherlands. At the end of 2011, the band released its first album, simply called “KARMAMOI” (Crisalide). It is the band’s only album with Italian lyrics. 2013 – 2014: In December 2013 Karmamoi released their second album called “Odd Trip” (Crisalide). ”Odd Trip” was a huge step forward into the world of progressive rock. The band changed its sound and its way of writing music. It also saw a switch to English lyrics. The album received some great reviews, and in April 2014, Karmamoi performed at The Borderline in London supporting Curved Air, and at Zanzibar in Liverpool supporting Lifesigns. 2016 – 2017: Their third album “Silence Between Sounds” came out in October 2016,. This album took over two years to reach its release date due to changes in the band’s line up. Co-Produced by the esteemed Mark Tucker (Jethro Tull), Silence Between Sounds was critically acclaimed around the world, with some reviewers calling it one of the best progressive rock albums of 2016. Progsphere Magazine included Karmamoi in their list “One of 20 Best Italian Progressive Rock Bands.” In February 2017, Classic Rock Society Mag included “Plato’s Cave”, a song from Silence Between Sounds, in their progressive rock compilation “New Species 28”. The album also reached number two with both Progwereld and Progstreaming. In 2017 the band performed in Italy, the UK, and the Netherlands, returning to the UK in April 2018 to perform at the Winter’s End Festival in Chepstow 2018 : On 30th November 2018, Karmamoi released their fourth studio album, “The Day is Done” (Sonicbond). “The Day Is Done” features several special guests, including Colin Edwin, (Porcupine Tree) on bass and Geoff Leigh, on flute and saxophone (Steven Wilson, Ex-Wise Heads). Mark Tucker was yet again Co-Producer and sound engineer for the album. The band went on to perform at Danfest 8 (Leicester) and at “The Boston Music Room” ( London ). “The Day Is Done” received some stunning reviews and is considered one of the best prog albums of 2018. On 4th May 2019, Karmamoi performed at one of America’s most prestigious progressive rock festivals, ROSFEST, in Sarasota, Florida. On 29th June 2019 Karmamoi performed at “BLACK WATER PROG NIGHTS” in Milan and on 29th Sept 2019 they played at “PROGRESSIVAMENTE FREE FESTIVAL” in Rome 2021: Due to the lockdown imposed by the covid pandemic, in 2020 Karmamoi decided to dedicate their time to writing and recording a new album. Called ‘Room 101’, released on 28th May 2021, the album was inspired by George Orwell’s ‘1984’. It revisits some of the novel’s themes and concepts, adapting them to the present day and focusing on the human mind and its weaknesses. Produced by Daniele Giovannoni, and co-produced by Mark Tucker and Octavia Brown, ‘Room 101’ features the participation of some great musicians, including Adam Holzman (Miles Davis, Steven Wilson) and Steve Unruh (United Progressive Fraternity). Karmamoi made this album their first-ever vinyl release. 2022: In March 2022 Karmamoi released a new single called “WHICH DREAMS” From April 2022 Valerio Sgargi is the new singer of the Band. On 25th June Karmamoi performed as the open act of “IQ” at the “Legend Club” in Milan and on 29th July 2022, Karmamoi released the single TAMED SHADOWS 2023: The sixth studio album by KARMAMOI called STRINGS FROM THE EDGE OF SOUND will be out on 1st September 2023. ABOUT LA BOCCA DELLA VERITA ...from progarchives.com La Bocca Della Verità biography Founded in Rome, Italy in 2001 LA BOCCA DELLA VERITÀ were formed with the purpose of reviving the progressive rock music of the seventies (especially of their influences PINK FLOYD, PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI, GENESIS, BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO, EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER and LE ORME) by means of performing covers of existing material from that era, which they initially did to very good effect. During this period the band enjoyed much public exposure, including concerts, cultural events and seminars on progressive rock music, but since 2004 the group has moved away from performing covers to devote themselves entirely to creating their first album of original compositions, `Avenoth'. ABOUT THE FLOWER KINGS ...from progarchives.com The Flower Kings biography Founded in Uppsala, Sweden in 1994 - Hiatus between 2008-2012 It's hard to make a biography about THE FLOWER KINGS, being that there's so much to say about them, so any attempt of telling their history may seem insufficient. This essential Swedish group was born around 1993 as a power trio formed by Roine STOLT (Ex-KAIPA) in guitar and vocals, Jaime SALAZAR (Drums) and Hasse BRUNIUSSON (percussion), and ex-SAMLA MAMMAS MANNA, this lineup worked with Stolt in his solo album "The Flower King" with the participation of Hans Fröberg (Lead and Backing vocals) who would stay with them. Soon they decided to form a band using the name of the solo album so THE FLOWER KINGS was born, the keyboardist Tomas BODIN and Roine's brother Michael in the bass joined and the band was officially born. For 1995 they have their first release ready "Back in the World of Adventures" which impressed the critics very much for their closeness to the style of early bands such as Moody Blues, genesis, Jethro Tull etc, borrowing ideas but not music, so you can easily find their inspiration but a single chord copied, I personally liked the album but found it closer to Neo Prog than to Symphonic but this is only a stylistic precision that has no relation with the quality of the album. The next few years are prolific with few changes and they release "Retropolis" in 1996. Stardust we Are" in 1997 and "Flower Power" in 1998 with no great changes. In 1999 Michael Stolt leaves the band and is replaced by Jonas Reingold so the new formation for "Space Revolver" in the year 2000 also includes Ulf Wallander playing the Sax as a guest that remains for a long period with them. After "The Rainmaker" in 2001 Jaime Salazar leaves the band and the drums are taken by Zoltan Csörsz who stays in the band until the release of "Paradox Hotel" (2005) when is replaced by Marcus Liliequist. As most Swedish bands the quality of their music and the musicianship of their members is impeccable but don't expect the complexity of their most illustrious compatriots like Anglagard or the dark and almost religious atmosphere of Par Lindh Project (With whom Roine worked in Gothic Impressions), being that the music of THE FLOWER KINGS is a bit lighter but not inferior by any means. ABOUT UNITOPIA ...from progarchives.com Unitopia biography Active since 1996 - Disbanded in January 2014 - Reformed in 2021 Unitopia is the rare case of prog from "down under". The band was formed by Mark Trueack (vocals) and Sean Timms (keyboard, guitar) after they were introduced by a mutual friend who saw that the two had similar tastes in music and the story goes that as soon as Timms heard Trueack sing, he knew they had to do something together. They released their first album, "More Than A Dream" in 2005 after spending 8 years on the albums, and have since been working on material for their second album "The Garden", which was recently released after 3 years of writing, recording and mastering. The band's influences stretch all across the progressive scope and make for a very intriguing sound that has one foot in "retro"-70s style progressive while still being able to sound like other artists in the modern progressive scene. They have a rather large sound to them, which is no doubt helped by their 6-member roster (including Matt Williams (guitar), Monty Ruggiero (drums), Shireen Khemlani (bass) and Tim Irrang (percussion)). They mix a combination of Flower Kings-like symphonic qualities with the soul of Ladder-era Yes and Trueack's unique vocals to make the brunt of their sound. With the band's two first releases they have shown that they're an ambitious bunch. While the first album failed to make waves in the progressive community, their second album, The Garden has received critical praise in many prog circles, and as a double album with multiple epics, it certainly isn't one to be taken as "a flash in the pan". From here, one can only wonder what the band will do next. A promising new entrant into the "retro" scene which should turn the heads of those interested in hearing more modern symphonic prog with various influences. ABOUT STEVEN WILSON ...from progarchives.com Steven Wilson biography Steven John Wilson - Born 3 November 1967 (Kingston upon Thames, London, UK) STEVEN WILSON, perhaps most widely known for his role as the frontman for the popular act PORCUPINE TREE , is an artist from the UK who, through his various side projects, has spanned a vast number of musical ideas and concepts. Some of the styles he has been known to utilize are heavy prog, psychedelic, electronica, post-rock, ambient music, drone, metal, and art rock. Furthermore, WILSON is intensely focused on production values, dynamic mixing and mastering, and all other sorts of building albums that sound best in high-quality systems. In short, WILSON has always been an artist that appeals to audiophiles and fans of meticulously produced music. This shows up strongly in each of his bands and projects, but it plays even more of a role in his solo efforts. ...the news for 2023 is that Steven Wilson is back making good music.... after having hit rock bottom with the album THE FUTURE BITES which I consider it the worst while Steven Wilson considers it perhaps the best ..... but you can understand his yardstick if you know the character better and I through his interviews that I read I could understand that he created excellent music with Porcupine Tree and as a soloist but what he would like to create is very distant from the music he then composed in a genre that is very close to pop.. .. The musical inspiration is found in the old masters of electronic music like Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Vangelis and Jean-Michel Jarre. Since age 14 I have played, composed and produced electronic music. The old icons have been and still is my biggest inspiration and also characterize the music to this day. Music has always inspired and fascinated me, and I have always had an urge to express myself through music. My first band was put together by my life long friend Flemming Pedersen, who shared and still shares the passion for synthesizers with me. Our band was called "Synthphonic" and during 1980 - 1990, a lot of synth-music was played and produced. My private life took a turn and I moved away from my hometown, and at once my working career took away the time to my music, and for nearly 20 years I didn't touch the music. But I was struck by a gastrointestinal illness that put a temporary halt to my working career. Leaving work and finding my way back to my beloved music. Steve Labrecque (2023 - Current) Guitars, composer, whose style is influenced primarily by 70’s progressive and hard rock with a love for the music of Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze I started my life in music as a drummer around 10 years old, and started playing guitar and writing my own songs at 13. For over 40 years I have been the lead singer, guitar player and main songwriter for the hard rock band "Nightrider". I have released solo material under the name "Tavyrn" and have been a member of Synth replicants since 2023. ....I didn't know SYNTH REPLICANTS, I listened to them by chance and they immediately caught my attention in this recent album which shows a genre close to tangerine dream at a good level.... an album with many good tracks which is very pleasant listen from start to finish.... ABOUT TREVOR RABIN ...from progarchives.com Trevor Charles Rabinowitz - Born 13 January 1954 (Johannesburg, South Africa) Born in 1954 in Johannesburg, Trevor RABIN started playing guitar at the age of twelve, and within a year he was playing his first local gigs in his brother?s band. From there he formed his first group CONGLOMERATION, and was a session musician by the tender age of 17. His musical career was delayed by being drafted into the army, but on leaving he soon formed RABBITT with former CONGLOMERATION bandmates, Neil CLOUD and Ronnie ROBOT. RABBITT soon became the most successful rock act ever to come from the country, winning multiple awards and having hit albums and singles. He left RABBITT and moved to London in 1978 where he produced bands such MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND also released his debut solo album. He moved to LA in the early Eighties, where he came to the attention of Chris SQUIRE who was looking for a guitarist for his new band, which at that time was called CINEMA. However, after Jon ANDERSON joined the band the decision was taken to again take up the name YES, and the resulting album '90125' became the biggest selling of their career. Trevor was with Yes for four albums, and since leaving he has concentrated mostly on film scores, and has continued to work in multiple different styles of music, including progressive rock.
