Re: Song length quota?
There are two kinds of people: those that can do math and those that can't.
Anyway, I've always thought that the delay between requests could be related to the length of the song. For example: song less than 10:00 = 1 hour delay between requests song between 10:01 and 20:00 = 2 hour delay song 20:01 and over = 3 hour delay Here, there's no "quota." No one's stopping anyone from requesting any length song. Want to request "Tubular Bells, Part One?" Go for it. Just know it'll be three hours till you can request again. NOTE: the one hour delay till it goes in the queue stays the same, just the delay until you can request again changes. If this is a good idea (I vote for it), great. I don't know how much programming that would take. I know nothing about it. Anyway, that's my two cents.

![]() I don't think the current request scheme is going to be modified anytime soon. I've coded changes that, IMO, have put a real damper on the over-requesting. Long tracks are, however, the nature of prog and I'm not going to give a 5 minute track any preference over a 25 minute track. I say I'm not as it will likely fall upon me to code it.

Re: Song length quota?
VaxMan, help clear something up for me:
"With just a handful of requesters, this is already realized without any programming effort at all." Does this statement imply that if enough (a handful) requesters (to make the change) ask, you will make the change that includes a 1 hour, 2 hour, 3 hour delay between requests? Or does it mean that there are only a handful of requesters (being song requesters), so the issue is "not an issue" and doesn't need to be addressed? I hope it is the latter. I would be disappointed if Joe Shmoe could request a 9 minute track every hour, and Sue Shmue had to wait two hours after requesting an 11 minute song. I'm a fan of the CURRENT system. ![]()

![]() I'd bet, if you would calculate the average song lenght requested versus the average song lenght in the library, that the average song length requested is a lot higher. I've noticed that on non-request Wednesday there are only few of them long songs played compared to other days. Having said that. I've noticed by now that generally, there is no big problem. I would have left already if there was. |

Re: Song length quota?
Let me throw in a couple of questions.......OK?
Is the music heard on Aural Moon generally of a high standard? If we're going to disappear up our own jacksies and talk statistics (lies, damned lies and statistics.....you get my drift?)......what proportion of tracks played are not good, regardless of length? And my final question is: If you're peeved about waiting for a song that you have requested to play, why not go through it in your head and then play it in the car going home or stick it on the deck as soon as you get home. C'mon......life's too short to worry about trivialities and the Moon is a free service after all. Just be happy with what we have to be happy with..........or something like that!!!! |
