Re: Show 136 - "Steely Dandies"

While Steely Dan were on one of their "breaks" I used to go see a band called "Nearly Dan" who played (and still play) a great set of The Dan's music.

I do enjoy going to see tribute bands. They are, in a lot of cases, the only way we can hear the music we love played in the way we love it. Keep 'em coming.

During the show, jtmckinley mentioned either being in or wanting to be in a band called "Stealing Dan" lol.....remember the funny names of the tribute bands we saw at Summers' End? Some of them were hilarious. One of the best was "The Counterfeit Stones" and "Fleetwood Bac". About 15 years ago "Second Nature" was the best Rush band I've ever seen.

Feeling the thread morphing, hold on for the ride......

As an aside, thanks to everyone for the great response to the show. I was expecting some resistance but I underestimated the love for the Dan. That said, it will be about 5-6 weeks before I hit another tweener (BOC, Purple, Elton in the mix) or another prog spotlight (ELP is still to be done). I've got some new purchases and 2006-07 releases to hit.

Speaking of tribute bands, if you ever get the chance to see the Steely Dan tribute band called 'Aja', go immediately, no questions asked...wonderful spot on replications of the entire Steely Dan catalog, including many songs they never played live, or had'nt played in years....
