Re: I Will Never Forget
My brother in law was on his way to the Pentagon where he works...thanks goodness for DC traffic.
Every day, something horrible happens. Stuff that doesn't make the front page. This is not because of any govt etc. It's just the way we are, unfortunately. For me, it just makes me more wary... but not more sheltered. I just lead my life and hope for the best. |

Re: I Will Never Forget
No, I really want to know this.
As I see it, the only form or type government that would have prevented this would be a theocracy of camel shagging, woman degrading, desert rat Mohammedans. Terrorism has affected the US, UK, Spain, island nations of the mid and far east and even RW's France. So, I want to know how this would have been stopped.

Why let yourself get roped into it? Go ahead, have at it if you want. I responded to QJ's nice thread, and I'm done. By the way, we have people that fit the first category you mention. they're called Mormons. |

Mormons!? I do or did software development for companies in Utah. I've been in SLC, Park City (Loki Group), Provo(Axent), American Fork(Symantec) and Spanish Fork(ProvN) on many occasions. Women there are part of the work force and they do not run about in burlap sacks. They (the members of the LDS) are, on a whole, generally good prople and very family oriented. I don't agree with their piety nor believe in it; however, they have never tried in anyway to force their beliefs on me. They even buy me coffee when I'm there!; albeit, I will admit, I have yet to get one to buy me a beer.

Re: I Will Never Forget
Thanks Vax, Gort, mailotron, Keithie and Rick and Roll for sharing your words with me.
If there is another post in the forums where I can express my position regarding political and religious views let me know. I would enjoy a good discussion with my peers.

I love political discussions, in black, white or in the forums..but I really think that the Moon is not the place for this.

Re: I Will Never Forget
I was working in my Home Office, when my wife came to tell me that a plane crashed into one of the Towers. This was just a couple of min after the first plane hit. I switched on TV and for hours watching, I could not believe what I saw. It was surrealistic. Like taken from a bad catastrophy movie. I felt at once that this would change the face of the world, painting it much more in black and white (good and bad). It has become very dificult to be a "world citizen", as I would like to be.
On the users map you can see, that we have some participation fom Saudi Arabia, Marroque etc. Let's hope, that our commun viral infection, the progressive rock, will spread around in these countries, that these friends join us here to faff about the music and we get closer to each other not only musicwise..

Re: I Will Never Forget
I think a good political discussion would be illuminating and enjoyable, but it's hard to keep discussions about things that have no right answer, civil. As we've found in the past.
![]() Thank you for this thread, Q. (how are you??) I was in the kitchen making coffee. The quality of the sunlight and the way it shone on the counters is something I will always remember because it was very beautiful that morning with the desert late summer morning sun. I had the telly on for some reason...never have the telly on in the morning. I saw the first plane and then the second and I thought they had been accidents, but it didn't add up. Then I called my mother in Canada to tell her we were alright. I know that seems silly as we live on the other side of the country from NYC, but this kind of tragedy makes the world much smaller.

Re: I Will Never Forget
I grew up in New York City, and remember well when the WTC was built. Tallest buildings in the world at the time. My father worked 22 years in the Port Authority police force (the jurisdiction at the towers); he and I (he more than I) have been in them countless times. Like Vax, seeing the skyline from NJ (where I also lived for 5 years) without them is still surreal.
I'm usually not at a loss for words, but all I seemed able to manage that day was something along the lines of "there's no f-ing way". I did not want it to be real. The "people" who committed the act are assholes. Let's not generalize and lump ALL of any <religion/race/ethnicity/any other trait> in with them. peace. |

Re: I Will Never Forget
one of the most unforgetable moment of life happened. like Qjo it was the beginning of a what looked like an ordinary day. i was getting into the shower listening to KIRO do their morning news thing, when they announced the first plane struck...i thought oh my God, still thinking it was some small engine charter...i take short showers on workdays and when i got out they said it again...but i knew i couldn't have heard correctly "another" plane...so i rushed out to turn on the tv and there it was all smoke. i was speechless but i called down to nate saying they've gone crazy...i could not believe it...all those people, all those people. on the way to work the bus was deathly quiet, then someone said there was another plane gone down and everyone started talking...seemed we were all on the verge of tears. ...i have no relatives known to me in new york but some of my coworkers do, kurt my fellow partner-in-crime had a brother that worked in finance in the tower and my best friend/xboss is from there and both she and her hubby have friends there...they were all okay, but it took a while to confirm it all.
it still brings tears to my eyes ...all those lives snuffed out, by some who looked as us and regarded them as dust. every life lost and shaped by this atrocity is precious. i wont forget it ever. thank you Q. this is a great thread...thanks jim, i'm in agreement with your comment also. much affection to all podakayne |
