The sophomore release from keyboard master Paul Birchall adds some vocal tracks to the great instrumental passages. Not as vibrant as the first record, but still a fine disc. Usually you can tell the instrumentals by name, but not here...I read a review that says the vocal tracks sound like Alan Parsons...as discussed in another thread, that's a catch-all (like all flute sounds like Tull)...this is much different.

I threw this on in the car a few weeks back and it all came back to me how wonderful it is. Disc 1 is 70+ minutes of music, so that's plenty for this show, from the prolific mind of Roine Stolt. Daniel Gildenow adds vocals, when added to Roine and Hasse Froberg, is stunning. And Jonas Reingold, Zoltan Csorsz, and of course Tomas Bodin add so much.

The first song is a 30 minute masterpiece...it was amazing watching them do it at Nearfest and two days later in a small club (25-30 people) in VA. The rest of the disc covers a lot of styles - Monkey rocks, Christianopel is a 70's Crimson-era improv, Silent Inferno is classic FK, and Vox Humana is simply beautiful.

I don't hear as much music as I want to...and mostly it's music for the show...but every once in awhile I'll pull out an old favorite. It's amazing how good this record is. The last record with Keith Moon may be their most mature - Guitar and Pen and Music Must Change are developed pieces, and John Entwistle has some winners with three songs, including the brilliant 905. I really didn't want to play the title cut (it's on any station you look), but it is part of the record. Hope it's as well received as when I tracked Quadrophenia on a very early show.

Fast Eddie - "The Godfather (James Brown's Nightmare)" - from Not Sold In Stores (2002)

Here's a fun track to fill up the show. Kind of a hard rock fusion excursion.....the Bassist, Bryan Jones (Jonesy), has a cool bass only CD called "Meaningful Sounds" (been played here before), and is in a neat band called "Telesma" that I need to check out.
