Rickter Scale Show 166 - "Songophones"

airing Sunday, February 3 from 8-11 PM and Monday, February 4 from 1-4 PM

This week is a theme I've been wanting to do for a long time but finally got around to it. I'm surprised how quickly it came together once I decided to try it. And not a week too soon: just got more new music today!

We'll hear a pairs of songs with the same title but by different artists - and not the same song. They only share a title. Similar to homophones - let's call them "Songophones"...

In The Eye -

Iluvatar - First cut first record. I used to see them in their infancy, when this was on a demo. Brings back memories of drunk Baltinore nights.
Suzanne Vega - From "Days of Open Hand", one of her faster efforts.

Dreamland -

Steve Morse
Galleon

Two artists I like very much (ok you know Morse is my favorite guitarist), but don't know these songs.

Hallowed Be Thy Name -

ELP - Great biting Sinfield lyrics, a great song.
Iron Maiden - Last song off of "Number of the Beast", a powerhouse.

So Far Away -

Bon - As in Bon Lozaga. This may be the prettiest song you'll ever hear.
David Gilmour - We all know this one.

Wallflower -

Strangefish - Rocking song, deals with spousal abuse.
Peter Gabriel - This one doesn't get much play.

Sunrise -

Apple Pie - Not yet heard this band, looking forward to it.
Beardfish - Great song, record, and band. Sweden again!

One With Everything -

Styx - Just heard this in concert, from their last release "Cyclorama".
Frank Gambale - Long cut from "Passages", a must have.

Catwalk -

Saga - ok ok it's Cat Walk, but I really like this record ("Heads of Tales"). Always gets me going.
Oblivion Sun - I will miss them in concert this weekend...my loss - nice Frank Wyatt tune.

Under The Sun -

Black Sabbath - The closer off "Vol 4".
Enchant - Live version...

The Old Man And The Sea -

Rare Blend - Instrumental fusion from Cleveland...I've seen them twice, smoking stuff.
Anekdoten - My favorite song by them, I wish Jan-Erik would sing all of the songs.

All This Time -

Frogg Cafe - By the way, they're back with Nick Lieto. A must-see live band.
Sting - Mr. Smooth, from "Soul Cages".

Cigarettes -

Smithereens - Two and half minute ditty from the first record (no plural here).
King's X - Nice guitar work from Ty Tabor.
City Boy - Triple header! This one will get the booty shaking.

Silence -

Little Atlas - Longest cut from 2007's "Hollow".
FM - From "City of Fear", another record that's a personal favorite.

Until next week...take care.

Cool idea. Almost all new stuff for me, except King's X (...joking, joking...only joking...). I look forward to it (no joke)!

What you won't do to play Sabbath and Iron Maiden.

Next time you talk to Rick Wakeman, ask him about his work on a couple of Sabbath records.

Off topic, haven't been around, hope the test interval is working for the requests...

Will be out watching the Super Bowl for most of the show, will catch you all Monday.

Have some new stuff mixed in with a few classics for the next two weeks.
