Show 49 - "Long Tunes"

Celebrating the one of the staples of Prog, the long song.

1) Djam Karet - Strange Wine From A Twisted Fruit

From "Still No Commercial Potential", here's 28:53 of pretty much a continuous guitar lead. Might as well test your patience right off the bat

2) Asturius - Brilliant Streams

Shit, more like brilliant tune! The first six minutes and the last six minutes of this 22:43 piece is right up there with any composition I've heard.

3) Yes - The Remembering High The Memory

The baby of the group, at a mere 20:38 This is my favorite tune from Tales, IMO the highlight of Wakeman's (and other Yesmen of course) songwriting.

4) Galleon - The Ocean

IIRC, water is 71.4% of the Earth's surface. At 52:07, this song covers most of it Take a walk, go to the bathroom, take a long lunch. When you get back this will still be on. Disc 1 of this CD (From Land To Ocean) is even better!

5) Discipline - Into The Dream

This version is the Live at Orion. After 22:04 of this both band and crowd of 75-100 of us goofballs were spent. I think the song ends six times before it really does. And to think we called them out for encores after this.

6) Echolyn - Suite For the Everyman

28:13 of a collection of themes sometimes scotch taped together, but no less fun. The acoustic "Suffocating the Bloom" that closes out the piece is beautiful. A perfect example of the vocal back and forth of Ray Weston and Brett Kull. An excellent, biting look at our consumer-driven world.

I have a few more for next time, maybe in a couple of months.

To quote Ian....."Life's A Long Song"

Hmm. The title of KBA's fourth album is "King Black Acid Loves a Long Song." Maybe the epic "Some Things Must Be Believed to Be Seen" or "Headfull" for next time?

I love your avatar. King's X is one of my favorite bands. Can't wait for the 27th when 'Ogre Tones' hits the shelves.

It did look like him. But I think Spaz said it was a record exec.

Another thread morphing into King's X! Of course, they are one of my favorites. It may be time to break out the Bootsy Collins /Doug Pinnick avatar again....

Dog, have you heard the single? I'm loving the old-school vocal trading by Doug and Ty! Go to http://www.insideoutmusic.com/ to hear "Alone." I can't seem to get the video to play though.

And yes, that is Paul Schaffer (sp?).

Dog, did you notice my quote? I'm salivating too.

However, next up is Sigur Ros!

Yeah it's supposed to be a throw back to the dogman era, I'm really looking forward to it as with all the side projects from the band as well. Jerry's cd was awesome and Jelly Jam, well what can I say, killer stuff.
