July 22 & 23 - Past Modern

I. To start off this week's set, we'll be taking a look at Radiohead's brand new ('03) album 'Hail To the Thief'. Taking a few steps past Amnesiac has helped them to both further develop their newfound electronics and revisit some more familiar song constructions.

2+2=5 (Radiohead) - 3:19
Sit Down. Stand Up. (Radiohead) - 4:19
Sail to the Moon. (Radiohead) - 4:18
Backdrifts (Radiohead) - 5:22
Go to Sleep (Radiohead) - 3:21
Were I End and You Begin (Radiohead) - 4:29
We Suck Young Blood (Radiohead) - 4:56
The Gloaming (Radiohead) - 3:32
There There (Radiohead) - 5:23
I Will. (Radiohead) - 1:59
A Punchup at a Wedding (Radiohead) - 4:57
Myxomatosis (Radiohead) - 3:52
Scatterbrain (Radiohead) - 3:21
A Wolf at the Door (Radiohead) - 3:21
II. Continuing the modern trend, Dream Theater's 'Live At The Marquee' ('93), was the band's first live album. Capturing them live in London reveals a full sound, covering their first two albums with a grace and fury that only Dream Theater can wield.

Metropolis (Dream Theater/Petrucci) - 9:33
A Fortune in Lies (Dream Theater/Petrucci) - 5:15
Bombay Vindaloo (Dream Theater) - 6:59
Surrounded (Dream Theater/Moore) - 6:00
Another Hand - The Killing Hand (Dream Theater/Petrucci) - 10:46
Pull Me Under (Dream Theater/Moore) - 8:22
III. Ian Wallace's first solo album 'Happiness With Minimal Side Effects' ('02) showcases a rare blend of lyrical mastery and musical perfection. With such a great album, I can only hope that we hear more from Ian's solo side in the future. As it is, you can currently catch him on the skins with the touring 21st Century Schizoid Band.

Too Much Dogma - 6:40
Castaway +(instrumental outro: Tai Phun) - 8:51
I Can't Breathe +(instrumental intro: Network News) - 7:12
Bad Boy - 6:26
Captain of Industry - 5:47
The Spotlight - 5:23
Pilgrim’s Progress +(instrumental intro: Dis Traction) - 6:47
That's pretty astute there, EP..

Thanks spaz, that's what happens when I'm outta practice for near two weeks. Oy! I'm still recovering from moving and all of the concerts lately: Peter Gabriel, then Dream Theater/Queensryche last night. Now I've just got to remember to cut my lawn today. Maybe I should throw on 'Selling England By The Pound' for that . . .

Can't say the Dream Theater did anything for me, but I really liked the Ian Wallace album. That's worth putting in the library. Thanks for finding that one!
