![]() Ok, looks like this weekend's set has been successful so far. Here's the Lineup for next weeked.
Frank Zappa - Hot Rats After Crying - De Profundis Cul De Sac - Immortality Lessons (live) Looking that the past week's playlist, well, it's all british. Not that it's a bad thing, but there's so much more out there. So, I've got both Zappa and Cul De Sac from the US and After Crying from Hungary. First up is 'Hot Rats'. This was Frank Zappa's first solo album, apart from the Mothers of Invention. Released in the US in October of 1969, it probably wasn't the first Jazz Fusion album to be released, but it was and still is one of the most innovative and accessible (this preceded 'Bitches Brew' by about 7 months). In Great Britain, the album was even successful, reaching number 9 in the charts. Next up is After Crying's 'De Profundis'. This was their fourth album, released in 1996. Full of music that can be intense and then very calm, 'De Profundis' shows a classical sensibility much like early King Crimson. Finally, we've got some good ol home brewed psychadelia with Cul De Sac's recent release of a live album entitled "Immortality Lessons". Taped at WBRS (Brandeis University, Waltham, MA) in 1999, it's quite a wonderful live recording with such an intimate feel. Much like Pink Floyd's 'Live at Pompeii', you get the feel that the band is playing for a funeral long due. Of course, maybe that's just because there's no audience.
