A programming idea!!!

Ok, Wed., Aug 11:

10:53am - The Flower Kings - Love Supreme - 19+min
12:08pm - The Flower Kings - The Driver's Seat - 18+
1:24pm - The Flower Kings - I Am the Sun (Part Two) - 10+

We've been throwing out ideas about how to curb request abuse without banning IPs. This is an idea I had this morning. Perhaps controversial, but effective:

What if the time period that must expire before an artist can play twice was extended from 2 hours to 3 hours? It's not like the library doesn't have enough artists to cover it. Just an idea. Discuss!

How about 6 hours? Most of us like enough different stuff that we can go a whole day without hearing the same songs... err, artists... so many times a day.

At first I thought you were recommending that we just play them at set times each day, seeing as how they're going to be requested anyhow.

I think once a day, even 6 hours, is a bit much. I originally was going to suggest 4 hours, but I figured, "nah, people will shoot that down." Boy was I wrong.

Hmmmmmm...

That means Neal Schon, Tarentel, GYetc, letter e too!

Maybe a Floyd and Zappa blocker on......

never mind.

actually....if somene req a three min Tull song, that means no Tull all day?

So an 18 minute FK song would equate to the following formula:

6JT = FK. A bit silly, but do you get my point?

Maybe we should just realize you can't cover all the bases and live with it as is. I can think of too many pros and cons for any system. It's not that bad now is it?

I like the DJing of the new stuff yesterday. A good change of pace.

Yes, Rick, all artists, including GYBE!, Letter E, Neal Schon, Flower Kings, Tarentel, Zappa, and Floyd, are subject to a two hour gap minimum between airings. Spreading this out to three simply means hearing less of the same artist a day. If someone was requesting Thick 1, Thick 2, Passion Play 1, Passion Play 2, and that long one from Minstrel (?) over and over and over, it'd be the same thing.

Not if it's a three hour gap, as I stated.

I vote for a 3 hour break per artist.

I'm still in favor of having a RQ free day, with perhaps even a show free day just to make it interesting.

Funny thing about that: I just grabbed the new stuff at random and put it in the queue. Everyone seems to like it that way, as I haven't received [m]any complaints about it.

Roger -Dot- Lee, livin' ta please.

stick to your guns dot, i'm w/ you.

the moon has a huge library, this shouldn't be an issue.
i've been introduced to so many great (and some not so great) artists here.
i appreciate the diversity, the ability to
choose which i'd consider adding to my collection.
i love it when i hear a tune that sends me to the "refresh"
button, so i can see who it is.
i have most of the classics memorized note-for-note,
so i don't need to hear CTTE, LLDOB repeatedly throughout
the day.
the surprise of hearing something new or an old (rare)
favorite is one of the reasons i listen.

if an individual's being annoying requesting the
same bands continuously, drop them a polite pm.
if that doesn't work, ban the IP addy.

keep up the good work!

I write:

I agree with you Rick. Even the ones that are played out for awhile are ok by me, because I accept that I will sometimes have to hear a song a few too many times because there aren't huge amounts of rules in place in the system. Me likey not too many rules and regs. We manage fine, if you consider the numbers of ppl requesting and the different tastes in music. Song obsessions are fine by me too...we've all had them, no? It dwindles away eventually or the song gets pulled temporarily.

Quite like the idea of a RQ free day. What about also using that day to showcase moonies who would like to put together their own show as a one shot deal sort of thing. That would be so much fun.

We could even have a Keithie comedy hour.

1) I actually said something lucid? Thank you Lady Faffasy!

2) Two seriously excellent ideas.

3) Considering his royal headbanger's ability to drag out a joke for ten minutes, we would only be subjected to six of them.

Not a half bad idea. Not a half bad idea at all.

But why make it that one day? Maybe we could put together a showcase show as a weekly thing for those that wish to participate seperate from our weekly/monthly/diurnal/blue-moon related time frame.

Maybe program an hour, maybe just a couple of songs...

It's got potential...

Roger -Dot- Lee, like he doesn't already have enough to do.

I've been hinting at that for a year. Glad to see it's got some legs.

I support Dr. Dot and his assistent Starlet Dot

Lets have a request free day - Try it out a coupleof times

We won't lose listeners on that account -

Increasing the 2 hour rule to three will help and people won't really notice the difference when requesting.
