Rickter Scale Show 193 - 3RP and Progday Purchases and Artists

airing Sunday, September 7 from 8-11 PM EST and replaying Monday, September 8 from 1-4 PM EST

Although I promised some shows with older music and more individual songs, I've once again picked up some superb newer material. Like 25 CD's, scoob! So here are some of them...

Kinections: The Progday Support CD (2004)

I got this over the weekend as part of the Patron package at the great Progday festival. This is nine-song CD compiled by Lew Fisher - three of them (Strawbs, Sonus Umbra,Trettioriga Kriget) are available on their records, so I did not play them here. The other six are previously unreleased. They are:

Nathan Mahl - The Place We Call Home Excellent number with a lot of style.
Wobbler - Leprechaun Behind the Door A powerful 13 minute demo version.
Pentimento - Djam Karet More etherial, in the style of "Recollection Harvest".
The Muffins - They Come On Unknown Nights Noodling around, fun stuff.
Gert Emmens - The Warlock Returns In the style of Tangerine Dream, nine minutes but never boring.
Guy Manning - Top of the Mountain 17+ minute demo, covers a wide variety of musical styles.

The Mandrake Project - A Favor To the Muse (2006) (first six songs)

Saw this fascinating band at 3RP. Here we will hear six of the eleven songs on this clever CD.

Walking Music
The Economy of Motion
I'm (Overneath) Myself
Flame of the Simpleton
The Period of Delay
An Ode To The Spaceman

Edensong - The Fruit Fallen (2008)

Four years in the making, this CD is now done. I've had the EP of this for awhile, and I finally met James Schoen at 3RP. James is the writer, guitarist and singer. He has some very able guests and a nice band. We'll hear all of the songs except for the 20 minute epic ("The Reunion"), due to time. A very good disc, lots of fine guitar and flute, with some thought-provoking lyrics on some difficult subjects.

Water Run
The Baptism
Reflection
The Prayer
Nocturne
The Sixth Day
One Breath to Breathe

Bruce Hornsby - live (4/12/96)

Here are two songs from a soundboard recording from a concert in San Francisco. Picked it up at Progday. Both songs are originally off of the masterpiece "Harbor Lights". The first song is a 7 minute piano/voice solo version of "China Doll", jaw-dropping stuff. Then it goes into 8 minutes of the full band doing the great "Pastures of Plenty". Like wow, scoob...

Kinetic Element - "Blues Variation", live at Orion (2008)

Mike, Mike, and Matt tear it up at a show I had the good forune of attending. The Kinetic gentlemen gave me this over the weekend at their show. This song is included on a remastering of the three-song "Powered By Light Suite".

Tune in!
