Show 86 - Nearfest 2006

Dead Man Walking, that's me.......

What a week. Anyway.....

This week it's bands from this year's Nearfest, June 23-25....

Riverside - Reality Dream I,II,III

Let's see what all three sound like back to back to back.

Ange - Hymne a la vie, Exode

From the 70's classic progsters.

Michael Manring - Your Ad Here, Snakes Got Legs

Bass monster....

Richard Leo Johnson - Thirteen-Year Emergence Suite I-IV

He will be playing a 1/2 hr set between main acts.

KBB - Antarctica, Shironiji

Synphonic sounds from Japan.

Guapo - Topan, Mictlan

Looking forward to see what they're about...

Niacin - Daddy Long Leg, Bullet Train Blues

Another "Leg" tune, must be a Bass thing...

FM - Surface To Air, Slaughter In Robot Village, Seventh Heaven

One of the surprises of my concert life, I never expected them to reform to play Nearfest. Hawkins and Deller, with an Italian virtuoso on mandolin/violin, Claudio Vena..check it out...

I picked a happy song off the fun and underrated "City of Fear", an instrumental off of the near-perfect "Black Noise", and one of my favorite songs ever written, this one from "Surveillance".

The Nice - Intermezzo "Karella Suite"
ELP - Piano Improvisations (Live)

The second day headliner, Mr. Keith Emerson...

Ozric Tentacles - Erpland, Og-Ha-Be, Jurassic Shift

Not sure what to expect, since it appears they're scaled down a bit. But here I picked three concert staples from one of the greatest bands ever.

Kenso - Arrivederci

Was short on time for the show, so I picked what I feel was the best performance at Nearfest (last year), the great Kenso.

Discipline - Between Me And the End

Matthew Parmenter played a brilliant solo spot at last year's Nearfest. In celebration, here's a song recorded at Orion where he debuted this stirring tune, later to be re-recorded for his solo record "Astray". I still get goose bumps thinking about the Orion show, what a time.

Next week I'll be at Nearfest, and there will be no show (some may say it will be one of my better ones)....

Back in 2 weeks with some fun shows planned.
