Show 85 - "New To My Collection"

This week, some CD's I finally got around to getting. Some of the older ones I've had on vinyl for some time. A tip of the cap to my friend Jeff, who sent me the first three artists, and to Brand X's John Goodsall, who sent me some songs (by the way Deadly Nightshade contains one my favorite guitar leads ever done)

David Gilmour -

Mihalis
There's No Way Out of Here
So Far Away
I Can't Breathe Anymore

Four off of the fantastic first solo disc.

Pete Townshend -

Give Blood
Crashing By Design

I have a bunch of vinyl I bought right before CD's came out, and never replaced them. This is one. Thought it would be a good link with the Gilmour.

Robyn Hitchcock -

Madonna of the Wasps
One Long Pair of Eyes
More Than This

Long one of my favorite artists, both live and studio, this mini-Cd that Jeff got for 50 cents showcases both sides (the second two songs are live). Eyes has a hilarious uniquely Robyn intro, and More Than this is the Roxy song...he's great at cover versions.

Gary Hoey -

Carol of the Bells
Cookies and Egg Nog

Two monster cuts from his Ho Ho Hoey collection. Only 195 more shopping days left!

Kansas -

Song For America
Cheyenne Anthem

Two of their best songs (SFA my fav Kansas song) off of the record they did with the London Orchestra. Pretty good stuff.

Neal Morse -

Living Out Loud
Everything Is Wrong

Smart, poppy songs. Great piano on the second song.

King Crimson -

Indoor Games
Lady of the Dancing Water

I only recently got this on CD. Now to break down and get Islands...can never get into that one.

Spock's Beard -

There Was A Time
The Planet's Hum

Two non-Neal songs from Octane.

Mystery -

Destiny?
The Mourning Man

Rush-like power prog pop.

Advent -

Utter Once Her Name
Remembering When

A good sandwich between the Mystery and QR.

Queensryche -

One Foot In Hell
The Chase
Tribe
The Art of Life

First two off the very recent Operation Mindcrime II, and the latter two off of Tribe.

Bon Lozaga (aka Project Lo)

Mercy Street
Tolerance, Acceptance, Transformation
Perfection

Tasteful stuff from the man from Gong, Gongzilla, and many others. Love his Full Circle CD, so I gladly picked this one up. Mercy Street is the Gabriel cover, and it's outstanding. I had the pleasure of seeing it live (at Orion), with the stunning vocals of Happy Rhodes. She's also on Perfection. the middle song is a 9 minute jazzy sojourn.

John Goodsall -

Sybil
Hamsterdam
Animal
Love Notes
Worlds In Modulation

John's been popping in the shoutbox, and one morning he ventured into the white room. He sent me a couple of songs, and I asked for one more...well he sent me three more! The first two and "Worlds" are from the Fire Merchants records, and the other two are from "The Old Guard". I'll have to get some clarification on what exactly that is. They're quite jumpy and rock and roll.

Thanks John!

Enjoy the varied and eclectic musical spring feast....

Re: Show 85 - "New To My Collection"

Hi all, here's a note from John Goodsall...

Nice Content Richard!
Gilmour is god, & I've been a Spock's Beard fan about 10 years since they started showing up on our Califonia gigs.
Aural Moon turned me on to Transatlantic's 'All Of The Above' which is perfection of the prog genre. Thank You!
Also Sunday night, my old friend Ric Parnell ('allo) from Atomic Rooster,Nova etc......has a show in Monatana and I'll be on there live by phone.
John Goodsall.
