Welll.....
I know a huge portion of our 128k audience, including myself, listened with Winamp for years. I know it worked just fine. There are tons of shoutcast stations out there at that bitrate and higher, so I'm sure the program itself was fine in this regard.
But perhaps that particular installation on your machine wasn't right, and the upgrade "reinstalled" it, and fixed whatever local problem you were having.
That would be my best guess.
I am a huge Winamp fan. If it wasn't for Winamp and Nullsoft, there would be no Aural Moon. Heck, there probably wouldn't be internet radio stations at all! Aural Moon broadcasted using Winamp for years, and we were shoutcasting when the whole idea was in its infancy. We owe thema huge thanks.
There's also a great story about the
history of Audion for the Mac, which was recently retired.
