Ending on the song's signature riff, or progression, can be cool. But also when said riff is slightly modified and reprised, it's usually cool (e.g. Spirit Of Radio).
Fadeouts don't do it for me, as a rule.
I've always enjoyed the full volume slash of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)". For that song, it's the perfect ending.

Oh my yes. Very much like Maynard Ferguson's "Spirit of St. Fredrick". Two measures, one riff. Very nice way of ending a very nice jazz tune.
