I. As the end of the Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy and Hillage, Allen, & Smyth's careers with the early Gong; 'You' was their finale in more ways than one. II. Rather than being a true "progressive rock" band, Super Furry Animals are more like an influenced-by-progressive-rock-band. III. After three successful, groundbreaking albums, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer started to settle into their signature sound with 1972's 'Trilogy'. IV. The critical, sales, and personal failure of Sex and Religion was too much at first for Steve Vai. I'm not a big fan of Sex and Religion, but I own it and saw the tour. Any fan who "detests" it should chill out. Vai has earned the right to put out what he wants. After Passion and Warfare and The Ultra Zone, I'm set for Stevie.

I'm not familiar with Alien Love Secrets. I think it's playing at a time I can't listen. What's it like?

It's interesting that you should also mention 'Sex & Religion'. 'Alien Love Secrets' is actually Vai's way of proving to his fans that S&R is th exception in his catalog (although I like it). It's in essence a teaser for 'Fire Garden' that came out the following year. ALS covers the more metal and jazz sides of Vai's playing, emphasizing that he still has his skills. It's the very essence of what Robert Fripp refers to as a "calling card" but relating to Steve Vai. Good album. Lots of fun.

ALS does seem a little short. Fire Garden is also missed, I need to hear that too.

Man I love Steve Vai - not that there's anything wrong with that.

I got my AM & PM mixed up, good to catch this record. As you said, Tommy, very fun, and certainly not your typical AM fare.

Only half way through "You" but.........

Yeah, that album is really a joy to listen to whole. I was just sitting there last night as it played, reading the latest Dark Tower and chuckling at how blissful it was to be twice entertained. More great stuff is yet to come . . .
