Actually, it is the correct cover art. That is the original lp art. It was later changed to the photo art for a repressing.

I know that the white double gate-fold with an Island on it was the one I bought in '71

Just a "If Spaz ran the show" thing, but I've always thought if an album had two covers, and I were adding them to the tags, I'd alternate. For example, I'd do even tracks with Cover A and odd tracks with Cover B, or "Side A" and "Side B," etc. It's more work, but it's cool.

I'm not lobbying for it, because it's an immaterial thing.

From the delightful Wikipedia:

"The original U.K. and European cover depicts the Trifid Nebula in Sagittarius. The original U.S. and Canadian album cover (as released by Atlantic Records) was a Peter Sinfield painting of off-white with coloured "islands". This was used as an internal gatefold sleeve in the U.K. When the King Crimson catalog was re-issued by EG, they standardised on the "Trifid Nebula" cover world-wide.The original U.K. and European cover depicts the Trifid Nebula in Sagittarius. I've only ever seen the Trifid Nebula cover.
