Frost* in Bielefeld on June 28th

I would have loved to come today and post here: "What an excellent gig", however unfortunatelly the miserable sound killed a lot of that which would have been first class +. The drummer was way too loud, and you, that you know Frost music, there is a lot of fast drums in the music, so that many times every sound disappeared in a porridge of noise. And it was not the bad acoustic or equipment of the place as I saw TFK as well as the mini festival with Beardfish/Ritual/Tangent there and the sound was excellent. I think touring with a great band there has to be alweyas an excellent sound engineer, else gigs can be semi distroyed.

Nevrtheless, the line up was Jem Godfrey with Declan Burke, Andy Edwards, John Jowitt and John Mitchell. Each individual excellent on his instrument (when you could appreciate it, thanks to God there were some moments). The setlist was Milliontown plus some tunes from the new albume which were very promising. The guys had great fun on stage and were able to transmit it to the small (aprox 40 pp only) audience.

Frost is touring with Spocks Beard around Europe, and if you have the chance, go to see them. I hope for all, that we were just unlucky here with the sound. Nevertheless, Frost* is a big, big live band!

Thanx for the review Lotus, Live Mixing has always been a mystery to me. I hope you got to see thier talent anyway. If you can see Spocks Beard, DO SO! The New material is Great and they are very polished Live

Sharc, I saw Frost already 2 years ago in Essen supporting Pallas. That gig (although only 45 min support) was excellent. I know what they are able to do. Therefore the disappointment was great today, as they performed for sure top, top quality, made horrible at the mixing board..

I disagree lotus. Plenty of Prog gigs here in London with the likes of The Peel putting on regular concerts. Don't give up.

Hi lads, it's me, the sound engineer from the terrible Frost concert in
Bielefeld. I spoke to jem and the boys after the gig and they were all
satisfied. If all 30 visitors stand right in front of the stage and not
behind the loudspeakers, all they will hear is stage sound.
A drum set has its own loudness and to compensate this fact other
instruments have to be increased over the PA, what happens then is a
messy mix of PA and stage sounds.

Physics can be a pain in the ass, but music will always be great. Frost
was great on this night to.
Right then, if jem does not answer, your statement can't have been worth
that much.

OK. kind regards,

dennis. :-V

Hi Dennis,

is is really great that you are replying to this thread. As already said in the initial thread, I saw TFK, Ritual/Tangent/Beardfish in the same location with similar number of visitors, and the sound was great. Unfortunatelly the sound quality at the Frost evening was really bad. And this normally is the responsability of the sound engineer.

Here a quote from the Frost forum:

"Yep, the sound was indeed pretty dismal IMHO. The drums were far toooooooooo loud together with John's bass. Sometimes JM's solo's were really hard to hear. On the other hand Dec's solo's were a lot more audible. And most of the times Jem's keyboards had a very hard time cutting through the wall of sound.

But, nevertheless I had a blast @ Bielefeld and since it is highly unlikely that they will perform 2 of the most surprising songs on the other gigs I might as well give them away.... but if you don't wanna know, now is the time to click away."

Here the link to that post: http://frost.informe.com/me-here-dt1322.html

Sorry Dennis to stay with my critic, but I have to accept critics on my work too and I take them as a chance to improve.

I really do not care if Jem answers or not, as he was on stage, hearing his monitors, so he cannot judge.
