David Bowie?

What does everyone think about Bowie?

I like some of Bowie's music.
But I don't think it fit with in Aural Moon's music profile. It's not prog-ish enough, more avant-garde-like.

I'm for adding Bowie, although it would have to be selected tracks. "Space Oddity" would be a definite add - f/Wakeman and written by Bowie trying to imitate the sound of the Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd (his own words).

As for the station's profile... Well, everyone has a different definition of progressive rock, but mine is anything that is rock that is artistically far and above the norm. I prefer the term art-rock.

I like a diverse slice of music. I'm for adding avante-garde prog like Bowie, the earlier Floyd stuff (I'm for all Floyd), and I'm for SOME prog-metal - Queensryche (selected songs), Dream Theater, King's X, Platypus, LTE, etc., as long as it's good. I would love to listen to AM and hear completely different sounds from one track to the next, but still be able to say, "Yep, that's prog."

Bowie Rocks!!!

The guy is truly ahead of his time as far as music goes.

However, as much as I admire Bowie, he is definitely NOT progressive. I wouldn't mind seeing him added, but I don't think he fits the profile of Aural Moon.

Bowie

As someone who spent many years commuting between Beckenham and London via Brixton how could I say no to Bowie. But like others, I think a lot of his material is not progressive. Rule out "Young Americans", "Pin ups" and "Lets Dance" for starters. Some of "The man who sold the world" definitely fits the bill, plus, I think, much of "Scary Monsters". I would also vote for parts of "Low" and "Heroes", and "Station to Station".

This highlights the fact that Bowie is a chameleon and can't be catalogued as one thing or another, he is unique.

Good luck making a choice, but maybe be prepared to add and subtract in the light of feedback and requests?

Thanks for the feedback. If we include any Bowie, it will definitely be a limited selection of tracks - Heroes and Low were the two albums we were considering cuts from. Stay tuned...
