Show 93 - "Family Business"

Back to the themes for a week, with something that will include songs from all across the musical spectrum. All the songs have something to do with family members, except for two in which I royally screwed up. I picked a few from the library that I'd not heard (sometimes I like to mix it up) and read "Son" as "Song" :rolleyes2 It was a bit late to substitute some other "Son songs" (and there are others), so I left them in. Forgive me please!

This week it's Fathers and Sons and Mothers and Daughters. Other family members in 2 weeks!

The guilty parties:

Jethro Tull - Back To the Family
Jethro Tull - Son
Aries - Morning Son(g)
Iron Maiden - Prodigal Son
Iron Maiden - Purgatory (right after the prior song on the record, it's great tune...and some would say having kids is sometimes purgatory!)
Nektar - The Prodigal Son
Traffic - Every Mother's Son
Genesis - No Son Of Mine
Rod Argent - Salvation Son(g) (f'up 2 of 2 for those of you scoring at home)
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of A Seventh Son
Wilding & Bonus - Son of Alma
Marillion - Forgotten Sons
Queen - Father To Son
Salem Hill - Father And Son
FM - Father Time
Extreme - Our Father
Yes - Dear Father
Styx - Little Fugue in G / Father O.S.A. (for Steady Stan)
Kate Bush - Mother Stands For Comfort
Peter Gabriel - Mother of Violence
Jethro Tull - Mother Goose
Kansas - Death of Mother Nature Suite
Mostly Autumn - Mother Nature
Roxy Music - Mother of Pearl
Pink Floyd - Mother
Deep Purple - Anyone's Daughter
Tesseract - Heisenberg's Daughter
Magellan - Family Jewels
King Crimson - Happy Family
Peter Gabriel - The Family and the Fishing Net

Should be a mother of a show!

Some great stuff. Really like the deep Yes cut, some Collins Genesis, KC, Floyd...

What about sisters? :)

If you do a part two:

Journey - Mother, Father

Brothers,sisters,aunts,uncles in 2 weeks!

I'm a bit short for that show (that's why I'm skipping a week) so I'll gladly play the Journey cut, thanks...

There are some great cuts on We Can't Dance. I'm not terribly excited about "No Son of Mine", but it fits the theme.

The Yes cut was dumb luck. I wrongly assumed on my voiceover that it was from a record I don't have, like Magnification or the Ladder. But the tag says it's from Time and a Word. I can't confirm it right now, but I don't remember that cut on there...is that on a remastered version only?

Um, that tag is wrong. It's probably on the remastered version, but it's originally on the Yesterdays comp with "America" as the two previously unreleased tracks to bump sales. It's a pre-Steve track. Peter Banks is great on it and it could easily fit on either of the first two albums. In fact, it's a better track than some of the slower stuff on them, like "Sweetness."

"Dear Father, you must be putting me on
Dear Father, 'cause most of their minds are gone
I'm not feeling good like a think I should"
