Captain Beyond
 

I'm not asking this to create an issue, especially because I like the record, but I was curious about the inclusion on the Moon. I think it's similar to Budgie, maybe the Who, and host of other early 70's great rock and roll that may never (and to my mind probably shouldn't) make it on the Moon.

I got into this by hearing it on a Gnosis show.

To my way of thinking it's up there with a lot of other stuff on the Moon. One of those Tweeners. :)

Beyond straight 70's rock
 

I had this on my computer for months before I added it. It was a little too prog to dismiss out of hand, and not quite prog enough to just add. I finally decided it was prog enough and not famous enough to make the cut. Just barely.:xfinger:

The "just barely" meaning the progressive part, not the "do I like it" part.

I own and like the Captain Beyond (thanks to Fremder:rawk: )....you must admit, bands like Budgie brings as much if not more "progressisity" to the table. Captain Beyond reminds me of UFO in the late 70's. Thinking man's hard rock.

And the "veterans committe" is a reference to baseball, where if a player misses the Hall of Fame in the first 15 yrs, a veterans committee can later vote him in. OOOOHHH an American reference misses Keithie! (I'm still 8 or 9 behind lol).

Errrrrrrr.......didn't I mention the Baseball Bat?????

And talking of UFO shouldn't we get Strangers in the Night on the Moooooooo (Keithie takes a Magnum 45 slug in the temple):bang!:

Methinks you're starting to stray a bit from our 'prog' genre. I like UFO, but I don't believe they have a place on The Moon. 70s and 80s hair rock notwithstanding, natch.

But then, I'm not the program director, and don't want to step on Jim's toes (especially with his Martial Arts training).

Hmm...let me reiterate my position. I don't believe UFO, Captain Beyond, or Budgie should be on the Moon permanently. But I think they belong every once in a while, they're fun to hear, and that's why I do it.

I think Jim's answer was right on, I was just curious about the addition.

Remember, I'm only playing it once. You want "straying", there's plenty on the Moon to choose from. I didn't find the last show with other Moonies' selections any more "prog".....

I better go make some money....

I'm not a big fan of either of these three bands, but I wouldn't bitch if they were in the library (well, maybe the UFO inclusion would throw me a bit). Honestly, how often are they going to be requested? And if some obsessive AM listener starts inundating the system with requests, they can always be pulled.

Captain Beyond rocks! I have only heard of Budgie, but I know nothing about them. I'll check into that!

Look at the avatar nuff said :).While your at it thow some Mahogany Rush Strange Universe or some Child of the novelty.The only song i like from budgie was Napoleon Buonaparte 3.

There's Napoleon Bona-Part 1 and 2 on "Bandolier" but I'm not aware of a three. Must be a much later song. Very interesting - Budgie is very consistent and homogeneous. The Napoleon song I like better than almost all others but I can't fathom liking that song and not any others.

hey all-

sufficiently breathless was a mainstay of college progrock fm stations
in my area de the 70's. i bought the japanese import around '90 for
the then princely sum of 24.95.

fyi- capt. beyond was iron butterfly bassist lee dorman and (1st album)drummer mike pinera.
here's a bit o' trivia-
SB was sung by "hush" era deep purple vocalist rod evans.

CB folded after their mentor, fellow capricorn artist berry oakley
of the allman brothers died in a motorcycle accident.

switch off the prog filters. this is good stuff, although some tunes
have weathered better than others.

we didn't know (or care) that we were listening to "prog" at the time,
it was all britrock. i kinda miss that.

LOL sorry there rick if you looked at the time i posted you get a idea were i just came from i stand corrected :)Way to many pop's.I always liked CB there was also another band that was formed i think by the drummer of CB called Armageddon.My brother-in-Law has the album i'll ask em on sunday.

take a ride over to the thread on my show and you'll see one such song for this week. "Blind" from the third Purple record. Rod Evans can sing.

I have some less complicated music but mostly the good old 70's rock to play, hope you can join in ....
