Aural Moon - Progressive Rock Discussion - Jethro Tull in Bochum Wattenscheid on June 11th

First of all, we had luck with the wheather, as it was an open air gig. It was cold though (12°C) but we had only a few drops of rain while JT perfomed the Wheather Cock. (No joke, Ian excused himself playing this song with this result). The place, a sort of amphitheatre with a maximum capacity of 2500 ppl was sold out.

As a support and warm up they allowed a very unknown German band, consisting of drums, guitar, bass and a screaming young women to give some examples of noise they could do. So we waited patiently for JT to come on stage, which happened on 8 pm sharp.

Beginning with some songs of Living In The Past, passing over to songs of Agualung, a cut of 15 min of Thick As A Brick, Bourree etc etc JT performed an excellent gig, finishing of Course with Locomotive Breath. There were only 2 or 3 songs which I did not know (and these were remarkable).

Ian and the band seemed to have an excellent time on stage, performing at the best, with the little exception, that he seems to have some probs singing higher tones. But on the flute he was
"the" genius as ever. I did not remember, that he was so good!

While performing Thick As A Brick I remembered, that I saw him last time in 1974! and that I became aware again, that we were having the luck to see the performance of a legend, who could never be copied in his individual style in all this years. And that Thick As A Brick was a real milestone in concept albums.

And after all this years on stage in his very personal way, making music at highest level, he continues to give us positive feelings, letting us old farts remember "those" days and transmitting to young people the fun which is possible listening to good music!

If you have the chance to see JT on this tour, my recommendation is, that you go! No excuse! :)
