Show 27 - Spring Cleaning Part II

This is weird. I'm on little sleep after my Vai experience last night and working all day. I see Ozrics in an hour and the two people that were going with me are both sick. So I gave a CD to my son and his friend to listen to, and if he likes it they will go with me.

Oh yeah...the set list:

1) Jethro Tull - Beltane

Jam Forte told me this was a great Spring tune. Although Tull is my favorite band, I can never understand a lot of what Ian sings. I read the lyrics....spot on Jammy!

2-9) Tabula Rasa (same)

Lahto
Miks' ette vastaa vanhat puut
Tuho
Gryf
Tyhja on taulu
Nyt maalaan elamaa
Vuorellaistuja
Prinssi

I heard a couple tunes on the Moon and decided to give it a listen. I took right to it. Along with Hidria Spacefolk (last week's CD), Finland is getting some serious love! I read some reviews that were less than crazy about it. Well, I like it.

10-12) Taal - Aspartamus, Barbituricus, Flat Spectre

This French band has a neat sound. Love to see these guys at Nearfest. Three songs here for your pleasure.

13-21) Fish - Acoustic Session (Live At the Funny Farm 1994)

Lucky
Internal Exile
Kayleigh
Fortunes of War
Dear Friend
Sugar Mice
Somebody Special
Jump Suit City
Lady Let It Lie

I was recently given this, and was looking for an excuse to play it. "Spring cleaning" is a good enough reason:cool: .

22-30) Steve Vai

Part one of a two part spotlight, this week the less proggy tunes and next week the more fusion/prog efforts.

Viv Woman - Flexable
Survive - Sex & Religion
Bad Horsie - Alien Love Secrets
Here I Am - The Ultra Zone
Windows to The Soul - The Ultra Zone
The Crying Machine - Fire Garden
The Riddle - Passion and Warfare
The Audience Is Listening - Passion and Warfare
Liberty - Passion and Warfare

31) Marillion - Easter

After a lot of wrangling, I got the DJ at my wedding to play mostly my selections. He still snuck in "That's what friends are for"...just what is appropriate for a wedding, NOT. I was able to get this tune in.

Hope you have a good Easter. I was told that three times today. Each time I said, how about a good Friday and Saturday? I could use that too.

Note the post-Fish Marillion tune. Can't we all get along?

Update: looks like solo Ozrics tonight:confused:

Nice selection, Rick. I myself actually bought this album a few days ago, and I really like it.

Here are the song names roughly (and possibly somewhat incorrectly) translated:

Departure
Why don't you answer [to me] old trees
Destruction [or Fall or something]
Gryf
Blank/empty is the painting
Now I'm painting life
He/she who is sitting atop mountain
Prince

... for those who might be wondering.

Thanks! I like the translation of Gryf :D

If you ask me, old trees do not answer because they have no lips.

The "mountain" song was the first I heard...great stuff. Thanks again for doing that Methem.

I would've tried to translate it if I had recognised it as a real Finnish word... :)
