It was fun while it lasted.

Well, I was gonna wait a little longer to post this, but a runaway thread prompted me to do it earlier.

The short of it is that I'm pulling the plug on BrainRock. I'm not doing the show anymore for two very good reasons. The first and foremost is that I don't have time anymore. For those of you that are not aware, I busted myself up pretty bad about 19 months ago. Disability and workman's comp gave me the time to do a show, but now that I'm back on my feet, literally, I am back to full time school, internship, and pretty soon, work.

The second reason is that collecting, studying, and appreciating music is a hobby. Hobbies are supposed to be fun and relaxing. Making shows is supposed to be fun, and for the most part it was. But when your hobby gives you a weekly deadline, suddenly your hobby leads to stress, and that's not cool. I need to start listening to music for music's sake again, rather than listening with an ear to playing on a show. I did about 25 shows, and about 12-15 were phenomenal, five more were pretty good, but the rest weren't so good. It's tough to make a good show every week when you don't have a lot of time and you don't get paid for it. You do it in your free time. Tell you the truth, I don't know how TOIB does it. Rick just started so we'll see how he does in the long run:D . Gnosis is like five guys, so that's a good system!

Anyway, I told Jim about two weeks ago but wanted to wait a little longer before I posted here, which I'm doing now. With Jim's permission, I'll still be finding and adding missing album covers as they come up, and will try to find time to start making new liners and station IDs as Roger.Lee asked me to do back in November .

PS, BrainRock is over, but I'm not going anywhere.

I for one am sorry to see Brain Rock go, but I understand the time demands. The nature of those demands are different for me - harder in some ways, easier in others. I have no deadlines per se - if I get a new CD, and it takes me two weeks to get around to ripping it, it's not a big deal.

I am speaking with someone about a replacement show. In the meantime, I will, as time permits, feature some of our new adds on Tuesday nights, in an unformal way - I don't have time to record announcements and the like, but I'll try to post somewhere what I'm doing. More info will be posted as it's available...

Anytime you have ideas Spaz, drop me a line. I'll check out the music through the Moon. You have a lot of ideas and artists that I wouldn't mind getting on. Maybe that way you could keep your foot in the door, and more ideas means more shows and less repeats (22 shows in a row and only three repeated songs).

I'm finding that sampling new additions is a good thing. The show on the 20th/21st will kick serious ass. Additions from 11/04-1/04 will be featured.

Yes Spaz it's time-consuming. Also, I feel this "need" to be present and chat for six hours a week. However, I'm around all too infrequently during the other times.

So Godspeed to you:rolleyes: young man, and look forward to our back and forths....

i've so enjoyed the ride Yspaz

glad to hear you are recovering well from those horrid injuries Yspaz, and i for another soul, am also sorry to have Brainrock go...it's a great concept and i've so thoroughly enjoyed all your shows.

Knowing you'll still be around to put your "fiddy-cents" in is a great thing....guess you'll be growing up now.

always a fan, i like your ears—they've expanded my musical appreciation...and of course your forum post are always a great read.

u r much appreciated
with tons of affection

You do what's best for you, spaz.

I know you've taken flack for the "dronier" stuff you've played but some of it I've enjoyed and I have seen your point. Through you I've discovered Unwed Sailor and a couple of other bands which might not have otherwise found their way to the Moon.

So, thank you.

And best of luck with all that you've got on the go.

See you around as a listener...

...and now for something completely different:

Godspeed You! Brainrock Entity.

I do hope the decision wasn't based upon the flack from the "covers" show. If criticism of unpopular choices caused you to give up, I would suggest then that you never consider parenting.

Thanks for airing "The Blue Nile".

As for the time involved, I would love to do a show on AM but I would, if I did, only do one really good show once a month. There is too much to putting together a good show once a week, especially when work, family, and life come into play. College radio, I'm afraid, was it for me.

Ye Gods!!!!

I've been away from the moon for a few days and come back to this!!!

I'm genuinely sorry to see BrainRock go....even though I've only managed to catch a few of the shows they've always been stimulating and have generated much banter in the white room and shoutbox.

I, too, am really pleased that your horrific injuries are healing Spaz and I'm glad that even though BR is going you're not.

Here's to another few years of friendly disagreement :D :p

Love ya!!!

I fully understand you Spaz - I have the same with cricket and have resigned my post on the executive board from April for the same reason. It would get to your health too in the long run.

I've listened to a few of your shows and some I've liked and others I haven't so much.

But good luck to the future Spaz.

No, I had decided to stop back in December, but had four more shows ready and it just so happened that the covers show was last. I thought it'd be hugely popular, since I like covers, but apparentely not as many people like covers as I thought.

[Jim, you can shut down this forum whenever the threads die. Last day of February would be fine.]
