Show 20 - "Around The World In 3 Hours"

Hi Moonies, trying to get the sets made up a week in advance, and posting by the Wednesday prior. Until it changes, of course.

This week we are taking an often inhospitable route around the globe. Each song refers to a place in our journey.

1) Jerusalem - ELP
2) Jean-Luc Ponty - Overture/The Trans-Love Express
(our transportation to Russia.....with love:p )
3) Marillion - White Russian
4) Iron Maiden - Mother Russia
5) Renaissance - Kiev
6) Focus - Russian Roulette
7) Zingale - Green Scooter On The Way to Asia
8) Steve Hackett - The Steppes (Live)
9) Ozric Tentacles - Chinatype
10) Fireballet - Chinatown Boulevards
11) Joe Jackson - Shanghai Sky
12) Ian Anderson - In The Times Of India (Bombay Valentine)
13) Vertu - Marakesh
14) Rush - A Passage To Bangkok
15) Mastermind - Tokyo Rain
16) Scott McGill - The Alaskan Brick
17) UK - Alaska/Time To Kill
18) Yes - America (KTA version)
19) Frank Zappa - San Ber'dino
20) French TV - Everything Works In Mexico
21) Genesis - The Brazilian
22) Locanda Della Fate - New York
23,24) Drama - Africa (parts 1 and 2)
25) Toto - Africa
26) Shadowfax - Madagascar Cafe
27) Kate Bush - Egypt
28) Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin - New Jerusalem

Right back to where we started!

Thanks to late night Jam Forte, Teerminator (esp for the emails!), Mossy, and Fremder for brainstorming in white last week. I used a few at least....and to Rogor Mortis for the last tune, which was the impetus for the theme.

Sorry about missing Europe and Canada....but I just HAD to get Madagascar!:p

Let's ride!

Nice theme show. I've done a "Basic Geography" BR and I've got stuff for a second... :D

Just went back and read the old thread. I had thought you did one, and glad it covers different material.

A lively discussion too. We should call you "lightning rod"

I RQed Vertu not long ago, as a "research RQ", and liked it! I'll be looking forward to hear what they have to say about the land of "striped djellebas"....

Looking forward to the trek Rick!

Anything Vertú has to say is good by me.

Rick... Are you sure that Jerusalem and New Jerusalem are the same place? My Bible seems to indicate otherwise... :D ;)

In high school I was a geography whiz. Over time I have deteriorated somewhat. I even used to know where Ogadadoupu was.....

But my knowledge of biblical matters is only slightly ahead of Archie Bunker's.

I put some effort into the "map" too! Oh well....

Where is New Jerusalem anyway?

There are different interpretations to this, but check out Revelation 21:

Quote:

Originally posted John the Revelator
1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

5He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

So as far as I can tell, the new Jerusalem is on the new earth. Who knows, maybe it's in the same place on the new earth as the present Jerusalem is on the present earth.

But it's new! In fact, everything's new! Nice. :)

(and for the record, I have no clue about Ogadadoupu.)

the son of an archaeologist weighs in...

There's a new earth??!?!? Rick, if your show doesn't take us there, will you please put together one that does?? :D This earth seems to be going to hell in a handbasket...

And didn't Iron Butterfly do a ponderously long song about Ogadadoupu?

If you're going around the world in three hours, you're spending an extended period in Russia.

There are at least three other Marillion songs with titles about places, not alcoholic drinks, that you could have used: Estonia, Berlin Costa del Slough.

There are hundreds of songs to pick from that's for sure. True about Russia...but that keeps the air fare down.

I think the Marillion was a suggestion......

Good old Mastermind. I need my ears cleaned out, it's been too long since I've seen them!

Come up my way and we can go to the pub they play at on weekends.
They mostly cover metal noise in their first sets so you'd have to be able
to stick about until 1:30am/2:00am to hear any music.

Apparently, Dr. Seuss was an avid reader of Revelation.

As a resident of Pennsylvania, I'm surprised that Moses got it wrong. ;)

New Jerusalem is not far from where I was born and raised. Quite a "holy" place. Bethlehem, Egypt, New Jerusalem, Emmaus, Jordan, et al.

Actually a socialist would be more descriptive. I have communism as an absence of a strong government.

Have I told you the story about Bill Behrends' wife punching out a woman at the bar down here? They played Progscape 94 in Balt, and numerous times in bars and at Orion. Is Rich B. still gone? He's a monster.

:D Gone?

Physically, he's still with us.

Rick and Roll 02-05-2005 01:51 PM

due to...

the Super Bowl and some unexpected personal happenings, I will be late on Sunday. Unless a long tune delays the start of the show, The show itself should still run at 9PM.

I'll be in for the last hour or so of the show.

Monday I'll be there on time.

fremder99 02-07-2005 03:18 PM

Damn...

Rick,

I missed the "trip" and the replay.... :( And, while I might (should?) have a Mardi Gras parade as an excuse, it was really family houseguests taking a break from the New Orleans parades to visit me.... which is about all (other than a Mardi Gras parade!) that might have kept me from listening!

Don't forget the WWII artificial city of New Jerusalem in California's Central Valley, close to Los Banos.
