And now for something completely different...

Pretty progessive, for it's time, and certainly for it's content.

Goo, that has got to be the best thing I've heard in ages. Congratulations.

I wonder if I can sneak it past Jim and get it on the station, just for novelty's sake or something.

Roger -Dot- Lee, got the Hot Dog for her Roll

<grin>

Thx QP & dotman! Found that via a very old Docter Demento show on tape, then spent a long time searching for it on CD.

And dotman, plz don't try to sneak it in, or Spaz/OldSod/christoph/etc will accuse us of not hewing the prog line :)

Oh my. Dr. Demento. Now there was a True American Radio Icon. Is he still doing a show?

They can deal. I might just queue it up with the copy of 'Dominique' by The Singing Nun for no better reason than I can. It is, afterall, prog, wouldn't you say?

Roger -Dot- Lee, no, I'm not serious about Domanique. At least...not very...

Roger -Dot- Lee, who would have a witty quote here 'scept fer the fact that I was at work for 14 hrs yesterday, 12 today, and all of it on Nyquil. Is it any wonder I'm going in 15 different directions?

RogorMortis 02-13-2005 12:12 PM

Well, I might, except for the fact that if Jim doesn't already know where I live, it probably wouldn't take him much to find out, and then it would only be a matter of time before I was typing an in-depth apology with my remaining good finger (if I were THAT lucky...)

Roger -Dot- Lee, no, thanks anyway.

Yesspaz 02-13-2005 03:50 PM

Singing Nun? I missed something.

You've never heard of Dominique by the Singing Nun?

It may have been before your time, so I can understand if you were spared this particular bit of grossly overplayed slag. I think it was written by our friend Ad Nauseum (see other thread). I can upload a copy if I can find it. You can hear for yourself how bad it is.

Oh, and be advised: it has been known to get stuck in people's heads in the past. In fact, it's been rumored that certain middle eastern dictators used to use it as a method of extracting information from their political enemies in times past, but stopped it when their interrogators started complaining about how it was even more inhumane than anything else they've ever done and that even the Great Satan(TM) shouldn't be subjected to this.

You've been warned.

Roit.

Guess what *I* FOUND

Heh. Drones indeed.

Incidentally, that album reads like a blotter of One Hit Wonders, doesn't it? Shame about Kyu Sakamoto, though. He was the best one on that entire album.

Get it while you can. It won't be there long...

I just hope everyone will forgive my sins on this particular one.

hocuspocus 02-14-2005 07:31 PM

uhm...spiritual...nice harmonies...uhm...evil guitar.
just a little short to grasp the rythm completely, but i'm willing to forgive that little sin (i just put it on repeat ;))

i think it was a hit in the netherlands.

So did you have to listen to it twice before you got it memorized? :D

It was a hit here, too. In fact, it was the very first song that I can remember actively turning off because it'd been overplayed.

I was about three at the time.

Now if you all will excuse me, time to put on something to purge my brain of this particular ditty.

Roger -Dot- Lee, thinking Zappa would fit the bill nicely on this.

Does it make me a "sinner" if I were to say... Oh.. my... GOD!!

I'm old enough to have heard that song when it was a "hit" (a friggin' HIT!!) on AM radio (and, rest easy, I AIN'T talking about the Moon!!!!)

And there was even an extremely cheesoid TV video (quite possibly Ed Sullivan!) I seem to recall being inflicted with of "La Soeur" in full "habitude" sitting on a stool, strumming away, singing it!!!

Now I definitely need some sacremental wine.... ;)

OK, I'll admit it... I did DL it.... (thanks Dot!) Oh, the power of nostalgia :D

Yesspaz 02-14-2005 08:01 PM

goodness, that's terrible (vomit icon here).

You were warned.

I know I tend to spew sometimes, and exaggeration is my middle name (when that honored spot isn't occupied by '-Dot-'), I don't think anyone can argue with just how truly atrocious this particular ditty is.

Incidentally, I thought I'd mercifully purged that from my mind, when the writer of one of my favorite comics, 'Ernie' (now known as 'The Piranha Club') featured it in a segment. One of the characters, Uncle Sid, a notorious shyster from Bayonne, NJ, one time crossed a voodoo maven. She cursed him into thinking he was a nun. One frame had him singing "Doma-neeka-neeka-neeka", and it brought back a flood of memories. Mostly bad.
