Eyestrings - Another gem?

My good friends at Orion Studios (www.orionsound.com), sent me an email about their upcoming shows. Check out this bio about a band coming in April:

"Eyestrings is a four piece progressive rock band from Royal Oak, Michigan. Now, if I told you the band features a singer and keyboardist with the last name "Parmenter", a bass player named Mat Kennedy, plus guitar and drums, you'd likely jump to the conclusion I was describing another well-known band from Royal Oak. Indeed there is a very strong connection; vocalist Ryan Parmenter counts his uncle Matthew as a major supporter of his musical endeavors, and bassist Mat Kennedy in fact plays in both Discipline and Eyestrings. "Burdened Hands" is their debut album, a 10-track, 66-minute album of rock music with a rich spectrum of influence including hints of Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, Genesis, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Crack the Sky, and Tom Waits. There's a good variety in their music that never betrays the cohesiveness of their sound overall."

I have not checked out their record yet, but the website is www.eyestrings.com . If they are a fraction of what Discipline is, this is a major treat.

If anyone checks this out, please let me know what you think. I'll do the same in the meantime.

clips

I too can't tell from clips, but I did listen to all of them. I think the clips have mostly the vocal portions. I like it a lot.

It will take some rearranging, but I will try to see them on 4/10 here in Balt.

the answer is yes

I saw them at the lovely Orion Stusios (with Sonus Umbra) last night. I also bought their CD. I was sober and still diggin it.

This is an excellent band. The bookend songs on the CD are 10+minutes and the remainder are of shorter duration. All of tunes work, and are very unique.

Ryan Parmenter (Matthew of Discipline's cousin) is as good as a frontman as you can get. He has not only a lot of styling to his voice but also is a very good keyboardist. The lyrics also really make you think.

The CD is alternately fun and moody. The quieter moments are Gabrielesque, and the bridges and instrumental passages are dynamically awesome (too bad the clips can't demonstrate that). It is a real treat, and I feel some of the freshest music to come along in quite some time. You can pick out elements of many influences, but I don't want to pigeon-hole it by settling on one. There's also a little description at the front of this thread, too.

I can't think of anyone I know from the Moon that would not like this CD.

This would be a great addition to the library.

That's high praise. I'll have to see about picking up a CD when I've got the spare cash. I'll also likely donate it, if someone doesn't beat me to the punch...
