Thank you, Roger. It's lovely to see the new additions in the forums and takes the pressure off you guys to get it on the home page right away. Thanks for all you do, Avian, Jim and Rog.

My pleasure. I'm having a ball doing this stuff. I think it helps Avian and Jim out more than a bit, and it's getting me a good deal of background information for my show.

hmmmmmm

looks good but I have questions:

Innuendo? Getting past the fact that I'm not a fan of that record, doesn't seem all that prog to me.

Is that the first Satriani on the Moon? (his royal laziness says)
If so, any of the first five rate also.

just being a thorn in the side!

I must disagree, good sir. 5/4 flamenco guitar? Insanity? Doesn't get much more prog than that!
:D

Not entirely sure. Next time I'm on the station, I'll give it a look.

Nothing new about that! :P

Amen to that brother!

A nice reply, I stand corrected. Let me know your results of the Great Aural Satriani Hunt (or GASH for short).

GASH has proven to be a WILD success!

Not only do we have SBM, but we've also got what appears to be the entire Flying in a Blue Dream album.

That's it for Joe, however.

Roger, Quicker'n Google, but not quite as rich.

progdirjim 04-13-2004 11:49 PM

Actually, we don't have all of Flying In A Blue Dream - I left off a few songs that I felt were un-prog. Big Bad Moon being one, and maybe 2 or 3 others. I have more Satriani which I will add, just keeps slipping through the cracks.

Innuendo, I uploaded less than half of it. I feel the songs I chose are reasonably proggish. The title track has Steve Howe playing that flamenco guitar, therefore it must be prog, right?

:D

Satriani

Speaking of Satch, did anyone catch the Dream Theater/Satriani/King's X tour? I really wanted to, but with my budget...

Rick and Roll 04-15-2004 10:41 PM

concert(s) review

I try not to compare bands as I remember them in their prime, but it's hard sometimes not to.

I've saw that show summer of last year, and have seen each band individually - DT 4 times, KX 4 or 5, and Satch 3 times.

King's X only played five songs - if you're a fanatic (as we are Spaz), it was a major disappointment. They didn't have time to set up or check well, and I'd rather have seen then do their regular 15-20 song awesome set.

Satriani was the king. The last two times I'd seen him he wasn't "all that" (Extremist and 5th record tours). The first time I saw him was in 1990 on the "Blue Dream" tour. I remember like it was yesterday. Jonathan Mover and Stu Hamm and Satch. Nothing fancy, late night, just one killer song after another. I still may be perspiring. Easily in my top five shows I've seen (approaching 300 total).

All that being said, not knowing what he had released in five years, or expecting little, he delivered. His song selection was great, and was flashy without being overbearing. He was the best of the three.

Dream Theater, it's up to you. I was awed by them the first time I saw them, but I would never go back now. The time I saw them prior was with the Dregs and what a contrast. Although I think Rudess was with them they played the entire "Scenes" record start to finish. Not a good way to run a show IMHO. As a friend of mine said "Who will wash the blood from the guitars"? We just enjoyed the Dregs, then sat in the back and drank and conversed the rest of the night. I like watching Myung on bass, but Kevin Moore was my favorite keyboardist and he's gone. The rest of them are too slick and the music's too loud.

Damn, I'm old!

How's that for a concise opinion?

Newest updates for week of 4/26

In honor of the resurrection of The Moon (with MANY kudos going to Avian for his hard work working with a cantankerous system and an operating system that [Roger -dot- Lee goes on one of his famous anti-microsoft rants that has nothing to do with the subject at hand. It's OK, you've probably heard it all before, so I'll spare you the details] FLYING CAMELS AND PIGEON POOP!

Anyway, back to the subject at hand: The Latest Arrivals!
  • alKemy - Within My Prism

Heh...uh, oops. My bad. It's the entire album. I just wrote down the wrong part of the entry.

errors in the playlist!

gotcha!

saw song of solomon playing....

surprised that's on the Moon, kind of marginal for Kate....

progdirjim 04-28-2004 11:58 AM

on the kate Bush (Red Shoes), I left off 3 songs that I felt were too pop for the moon. There were probably 2 others that JUST made it. Program Director's prerogative...

Rick and Roll 04-28-2004 01:35 PM

no time to look but

I wonder if "Constellation of the Heart" was cut? That's a prime of example of the kind of "pop" I like (it's my favorite cut) that doesn't make it on the moon (for acceptable reasons may I add). I'd be interested to know.....

Roger -Dot- Lee 04-29-2004 08:14 AM

More Happy Fun Updates!

I believe we can thank VAXMan for the bulk of these new tunes. I seem to recall him wondering when they'd be on board. Well, wonder no more!
  • IZZ - Ampersand
  • IZZ - I Move
  • IZZ - Silver of a Sun
  • Karnataka - Delicate Flame of Desire

Roger -dot- Lee

Rick and Roll 05-03-2004 11:56 AM

Yeah baby!

I Move is in my player this week.:)

If I get as wealthy as Vax, I'll get the others. The Ampersand cuts sounded tasty.

Wow my 1,000th post. What a loser I am!

progdirjim 05-05-2004 12:17 AM

IZZ are cool, I like them. Stylistically similar to Spock's beard (with Neal), but I like IZZ better - their sound is more integrated than SB. How many more CDs do they have?
