Please, get rid of RUSH
I listen to all kinds of music, and many forms of progressive, but I consider RUSH to be the.WORST kind of garbage. They hardly belong in the genre, and are unlistenable.
I'd be eternally greatful if they were removed from the playlist, or played only at 5 am |
for real?
I'm not sure how to take this one....ok I'll try both ways.
If you are serious, there's too much to argue with you, so I'll pass. Sorry to disappoint you. I only converse with intelligent beings. If you are not, expose yourself you lunatic! And hey, like your avatar....is that your girl? Oh that's right I remember her...... "and all the posts were made equal by hatchet axe and saw" |
I can accept that Rush does not appeal to everyone--they are the kind of band that people either seem to like or dislike. I like them myself, and I find a lot of things about their music to be appreciable. It's okay that you don't like them, but don't you think it would be quite selfish to demand that other people be subjected to your own personal tastes? After all, Aural Moon is about everyone!
I mean, if you want to flame a band and get away with it, you should post about Dream Theater instead! |
Well, hello to you to, new guy...
Oh for crying out loud. Here we go again. Another idiot shows up on his first day at AM, with his first post, and starts griping about his least favorite band. Avian, ban this moron's IP.
|
I think that you're being just a little bit too harsh; if he really wants to be here then there is truly little that can be done to stop him, so I think that we must deal with him as nicely as possible.

I'd be interested to know what it is you don't like about Rush but more importantly I like to know what music you DO like. There are over 11,000 tracks available on Aural Moon so there should be something here that would tickle your fancy. Maybe you like Yes or Genesis and there are tons of their tracks here. Perhaps you'd enjoy just taking a flyer and requesting something you've never heard before. In the years I've been listening to Aural Moon I've discovered literally hundreds of new artists that now form a permanent part of my listening pleasure. Go on, be bold, BE POSITIVE!!!! Start thinking that your cup is half full rather than half empty. Life's more fun that way too. |

good advice keith! i agree 100%.
any band that's spawned so many imitators, could be considered as the "fathers of prog metal" must be doing something correctly. |
didn't think about it seriously
I kind of thought he was kidding, but maybe he wasn't. So my response is what Keith and Lemur said.

However, I find this post also distasteful. Kev and Lemur, well said. |

And this isn't about humility, but about the other side of the scale - preposterous pride. It's like me going to a movie memorabelia (sp?) convention and demanding that all the Hitchcock stuff be removed because he's a hack. While that may be my opinion (it's not), why would I dare think my diatribe will be successful or make friends? I don't particulary like ELP, but in the five years I've listened to AM, I've never asked that a single song be deleted, much less have had the balls to ask on my first day in my first post. That's just simply preposterous. |
Agreed, but -
I do like your Hitchcock analogy, the approach is wrong on Sod's part. (I feel the same about most art).
You may want to rethink the sarcasm. there's been three of four instances this week that has shown it's not working. How about an icon or saying "I'm sarcastic"? |

As Rick has mentioned there have been various episodes recently that you put down to "sarcasm" that don't come over that way at all. Continuing to say that you were meaning to be sarcastic just comes over as "Ooops! I'd better try and get out of this by saying I was being sarcastic". It, frankly, makes you look a bit of a twerp. Give it up. You obviously can't pull it off. Stick to the Brain Rock which I'm sure is going to be great and I'm going to leave college early to ensure that I'm home in time to hear it. |

I saw your homepage roger, very nice!
And the word of the day is classic (celebrating love and drinking). :D |
oh, say can you see...
thanks, Rick! good ol' Anacreon... :D

I will postulate that every member of Aural Moon has at one artist they dislike or could never get into. I will admit I am not a Rush fan but on the other side, I never really listened to them But it doen't hide the fact that it the honorable member should also of told us that there is some music he does like. We know now he doesn't like Rush and we respect that but he should also repect that there are Rush fans among us.

get rid of who?
when I first read the subject, I thought it said get rid of Bush...
;) :p ;) :p |
yeah, remember that this isn't a closed forum.
lurkers and visitors judge the site by what's being said here. let's hope a few of them stay. every forum's different, it takes a while to find the feel. give them that chance. a bickering handful of clique-ish regulars does not a forum make.:D |
not me my friend

As for the quote above, that kind of strikes a nerve. I don't like to be perceived as clique-ish, it implies a shallowness and lack of tolerance for opinions. I hate cliques, fraternaties, and the like. That being said, I can see where you're coming from, kirk. The "bickering" does make it seem like we're a bunch of snobs to the "outside world". But it's easy to catch a false impression - after a few times of looking at "producer of the year", it can be perceived as a superiority thing (although I'm certain it is not intended as such). I post so much because it is so easy and is a great way of communication. And I can't help if we have differences. Hopefully we can get some other differences in here too! So what I am trying to say is that I do not care what the perception is, because I cannot control it. I can only do my best to be fair and open-minded. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't............ :) |

When I first started posting in the Forum the most popular threads were "What are your 3 fave Pink Floyd Tracks" or "What are your 3 unfave Yes tracks" that sort of thing. I've seen it grow to a point where meaningful intelligent discussion ensues from what might, at first, seem a vey innocuous beginning. Mostly this is done with good humour but like all families, and I firmly believe that this is what Aural Moon has become, there are the odd moments of sulking and tantrem throwing. This is good and natural. As for the cliqueishness (is that a word?), every forum I post to has it's band of regulars. I think that's probably because they just happen to be the ones who feel the most passionate about their subject. Anyone visiting Aural Moon's forum would generally, I think, be impressed with the intelligent discussion and the humour that goes into it. I feel there is a good balance here and we don't take ourselves so seriously that we're not averse to having the piss taken out of us if we make a bit of a screw up from time to time as will always happen. Of course, the reason that I post so often is really that I've got too much time on my hands and should go and get a proper job......:D |
If radio you're listening to is not your personal station then it is not possible to have the whole playlist consisting of artists you like. Compromise is essiental aspect of Internet radio functioning. That's why I listen to Tales, Keithie listens to Amarok :D
Let's listen to Rush then. :) ... ... especially as it is superb band. |
the best reponse to this
is in another thread by our man Zvinki., posted yesterday in the "repent sinners" thread.

How interesting my harmless request engendered so much antagonism. Well, no problem , I can take it.
Fact is, I like dozens if not hundreds of groups, and many other forms of music. There is also a large assortment of music I dislike. Now what was happening is this. I like most of the AM stuff that's played, or at least can tolerate it as background music. On occasion, something absurd and annoying is played (imo , of course, {faux humble}) and I was finding it to be RUSH, much of the time. Simple as that. I couldn't tell you the name of one RUSH song, I'm not a fan, never was. I do know what I can't stand though and apparently RUSH is on that admittedly longish list. Now why someone would be so offended at that , that they would want me kicked and banned, well, I'll leave that to greater intellects to decipher. And yes, I go back far enough that I bought Procol's Shine On Brightly when issued. If anything, the short shrift Procol gets these days as Prog pioneers (and rare playtime) should offend me. PS, I'm not too crazy about Dream Theatre either. Like the Flower Kings though. |

We don't think much of Dream Theater either... |
pdj- re: procol harum-
"whiskey train" w/ robin trower- "conquistodor" from the live w/ the edmonton symphony album- "bringing home the bacon"- "simple sister" "a salty dog" all early days of college FM staples, most of these are available on the "best of.." -------------- has there been much discussion of why most here don't care for dream theater? for my tastes, there's too much "damn, ain't i a virtuoso" going on. they need to learn to shift gears, show the ability to be subtle. to me, that's the mark of a great prog band. i've always admired pieces like "echoes" for the simplicity, while maintaining an emotional connection. 30 years down the road, the piece holds up. i guess that's it. i don't "connect" w/ dream theater. p e a c e kirk |

Yes there has been a LOT of discussion - I own 5 Dt CD's. But Images and Words is the only one I think stands up. And I'm sorry they're touring with Yes. |
IT'S OFFICIAL!
My internet provider (comcast) said today that PROG-ROCK PIONEERS Rush are releasing their new record today.
There it is! The mainstream has spoken! They are prog! |
