1. Cat Food - King Crimson
3. All In A Mouse's Night - Genesis 5. Pigs On The Wing - Pink Floyd (and by the way, for my last question, I had Mark Knopfler instead of Mel Collins - Mark guested on Bryan's "Boys And Girls" album. I didn't know Mel played with Dire Straits, but it's not surprising!) |
Jim in the end zone with six!
Keith is going to be beside himself when he wakes up - I forgot it's only 9PM out on the left coast!
Come to think of it, I'm going to bed - at the rate you're hitting it, it should be solved by morning! |
8. Lone Rhino - Adrian Belew
[yeah, but Keith should be waking up soon - I'm hoping to get more than ten points before then for the clinch! HAHA!] 2 isn't "Dogs In Midwinter" by Tull, is it? I'm still working on it, since I assume not I'll also guess 7. to be "Heavy Horses" by Tull... |
Ha bloody Ha!!!

I'm awake now but the brain's not so I'm off for a gallon of coffee, take the cat to the vet (poor sod!) and get my thinking cap on. Looks like there are still enough left for me to have a go at albeit the difficult ones. |
no question here
I don't really have a decent question, so let's just continue off of Rick's question.
Sorry. |
ok, boys -
Jim now has 10 points. Here's the deal -
1) Cat Food - KC 3) All In A Mouse's Night - Genesis 5) POTW - Floyd 7) Heavy Horses -Tull (nice one, Jim) 8) Lone Rhino - Belew What's left - 2) Canines twice around the Sun? Hint: 1996 song by a very popular band, but an obscure tune. No other hints. 4) A hard to spot female? Hint: Two-word song title. 6) Pussy hiding out in Lewis's partner's boots? This may be the hardest of the lot. 9) A dark feline walking? This is the only instrumental of the answers. 10) An African mammal belonging to a deity? This I believe, is on the AM playlist. Have fun! |
Not an instrumental...
Quote:
This is not an instrumental, but how about "Run With the Fox?" by Yes (Chris Squire/Alan White). |
Re: Bernstein/Sondheim

Btw, As you can see, I did state it was Bernstein and Sondheim who connected Banks and Emerson. But what's the deal about Shakespeare? |
How odd....
Your Bernstein/Sondheim post didn't come up on my PC.
As for Bill S. Something's Coming and America were from West Side Story which Lenny B based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. |
reply
I got the B&S post by Yesspaz - it looks like whoever has the most points can work it out with him for the next Q&A.
Can't give you the Fox answer. |

Oh, and whoever gets the most points can have the next question. I never know these things, especially the link type questions. This is almost never a prog "quiz" anymore. Instead it's "research"! :p
Ha! I crack me up. |

A very good and interesting point, Yesspaz
That's why I shied away from the link question the last few times. There ain't no way research will help you on this question.
|
Take a look
I will be out for at least 5 hours, possibly 7-8. See what you all can do on the remaining 5 questions!
|
2. Gentle Flower, Hidden Beast - Steve Morse Band (I know this isn't right, but maybe half a point extra credit?)
9. Black Cat Shuffle - Al Dimeola |
More
#9 is right - I think that may be one of the harder ones - and it's 12 points for the clinch!
Can't give you credit for #2 - I meant a really popular band (Steve Morse doesn't cut it) A little more hint, then a bigger hint in the morning - SEE THE TOP OF PAGE 20 FOR THE QUESTIONS AGAIN #2 - go back to the prior hint, and another hint is that it is a two-word title. Then re-read the question, and do not make it harder than it is. #4 - hard to spot describes what animal? Think about it, then try again. #6 - The band in question shares the main part of its name with another band - and both bands used to be the same! #10 - the mammal in question can also be found in tropical Asia. This one should not be too hard as it is. Let's go until Thurs PM on these and then I'll "give them away", so that Jim can do a question over the weekend. |
4. She Chameleon - Marillion
god, I went around in circles on this one - hidden what?; camouflage something; then the "hard to spot" got me thinking of leopards and cheetahs. I think I'm making numbers 2 and 10 harder than they need to be as well. 10. A Christmas Camel - Procol Harum OR Holy Lamb by Yes - I don't think either of these is right, but I'm stuck for now... |
Another right answer for Jim
Nice one on the Marillion. Three left:
time for some real help - 2) "Canines twice around the Sun? Hints so far - Two words, a band that is very popular. Another hint - What does one time around the Sun represent? 6) "Pussy hiding out in Lewis's partner's boots? Hints so far - on the AM playlist, band shares name with another band. Another hint - shared name starts with G, and Lewis is an explorer. 10) "An African OR Asian mammal belonging to a deity." Hint: On the AM playlist. Another hint: Look at Sean McFee's quote at the bottom of any of his posts. There's a word in there that's in the line right before the song title. Holy Lamb was an excellent try. |
2) Dog Years - Rush
|
Bob in with a 2-run homer (or a Safety)
Yes, finally! A "dog" of a song, on a otherwise solid effort. The intro sounds like Bastille Day, then steadily goes downhill.
We have: Jim 14 (2 TD's & two extra points) Bob 2 (a safety) Two questions left (I know, mercifally) |
Dog Years RAWKS!
(but there is better on the album...) |
6. Cat In Clark's Shoes - Gong
and Rick And Roll has caught up with Yesspaz in number of posts! |
Yes!
but alas, it is ephemeral - I may be back to work very soon. We shall see.
Excellent, Jim - I thought no one would get #6! OK, it's Jim 16, Bob 2, the rest of the Universe 0. Time to give away the last one... #10 - "Climb the ladder....climb the ladder...to ? ? |

Porcupine Tree - The Creator Has a MastertAPE
:D |
And the final answer is...
"God's Monkey"! the fine Sylvian/Fripp Song.
Your answer fits Yesspaz, but I referenced the ladder hints, and they point to the above song. Final tally - Jim 16 Bob 2 the house 2 everyone else - skunked! I believe it is Jim's turn............................................. |
NOT!

I'll be back
I have to go for a little while - I think it is there - I'll check later
|
I'd be surprised if it's there, since I didn't put it there and I don't remember it being there when I joined.
If Powerslave is ready with a question, go ahead since this was all interim stuff. Or if Yesspaz would like to ask one for getting Bernstein, go ahead. Otherwise, I'll post a question when I can come up with a good one - I've got an idea but I'm not ready yet... |
A mirage
I thought it was there, but what the hell.............
that was one of the easier ones, anyway - I thought the clues would have long since given it away. On second thought that would be a good addition. |
OK, let's try this.
Below is a list of eleven prog albums. I'd like to call your attention to each of these albums because they're - a) GREAT, and b) slightly lesser known. But, they have something else in common with one another. And, once you figure that out, there's a logical order you can put them in. So, the quiz question is what is it they have in common, and what is the order. Gordon Giltrap - Fear Of The Dark Djam Karet - Burning The Hard City Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic - Petrophonics Shylock - Gialorgues Planet X - MoonBabies Weather Report - Tale Spinnin' Mirthrandir - For You The Old Women Tantalus - Jubal Sonus Umbra - Snapshots From Limbo Electrum - Standard Deviation Acqua Fragile - Acqua Fragile I hope this isn't too easy - have fun! Oh, and I highly recommend requesting a song from each of the albums - you'll be glad you did even if you don't guess the answer... |
What a nice time to post.
6:24 am GMT is very kind of you Jim.
Means I can take a look before the rest of you Prog heads wake up. Not that it'll do me much good. As Rick so nicely put it in the last question "I SKUNKED"!!! I've been looking at the list for 10 minutes now and nothing is coming to mind. Time to lift the tail and spray again???? D'Oh!!!! |
I have the link
I've got the connection - now to test my ideas on the order......
|
Maybe
Jim, are all of the artists on Cuneiform Records?
If so, is it a chronological order you want? |
If they're all on Cuneiform that would be a pretty big coincidence, as that's not what I was looking for. I'll check, at least one must not be...
|
Probably not
At least 1/2 are, but I didn't check them all and I'm sure you're right and it's not what you were looking for, so it's not right!
Anyone else? |
I did double check, and unless I'm mistaken at least Weather Report and Acqua Fragile are not on Cuneiform.
Should I start providing hints? |
Let the masses decide!
I like this post, it's fun - but are we few the only losers with enough time? I'd like to maybe leave the question up for a few days to see who can get it before hints - I've found the hints give it away too fast.
Any other ideas? |
Let's leave it without hints - l like having the floor anyway.
Unless there's an outcry or a correct guess, I won't post a hint until Monday afternoon. And I'll try not to give it away with the first hint. |
All times are GMT -5. The time now is 06:57 AM. |
