Re: Updates for 11/5/04

And once again, I should clarify, a few of these (Toccata, Finneus Gauge and Alamaailman) are single songs I picked up off the web (legally I'm proud to say)

(Actually, to be honest, he dropped me an email letting me know they were there. So I like to embellish. Sue me.)

Anyway, they are:
  • Alamaailman Vasarat - Vasaraasia
  • Finneus Gauge - More Once More
  • Finneus Gauge - One Inch Of The Fall
  • French TV - Pardon Our French
  • French TV - The Case Against Art
  • Infinity - Infinity
  • Theory Of One - Antithesis
  • Toccatta - Anonima Existencia
  • Trap - Insurrection

Enjoy!

Roger -Dot- Lee, liking that Toccatta....

Roger -Dot- Lee 11-28-2004 02:15 AM

Well, Jim has done it again. There are several new titles up on the Moon. I'll spare the assembled the witty quip, shut up, and post the titles:
  • Cleveland, Barry - Memory & Imagination
  • Cleveland, Barry - Volcano
  • Durant, Jon - Things Behind The Sun
  • Egg - Egg
  • Glass, Philip - Dancepieces
  • Kennedy - Kennedy
  • Khan - Space Shanty
  • Martin Maheux Circle - Physics Of Light
  • Mystery - Destiny - Queen of Vajra Sp...
  • Network - Highly Committed Media Players
  • Vladimir Badirov Project - Greetings From Nostradamus

Roger -Dot- Lee, puttin' in some fun-kay hours lately.

progdirjim 11-28-2004 12:08 PM

and as usual, a caveat - the Mystery and Martin Maheux are individual tracks from a sampler. The rest are complete albums. Enjoy!

Rick and Roll 11-28-2004 01:05 PM

wanna play DJ?

on my 12/19 show - to get some of these tunes on...

....you can even play.......I can't get the words out.........P hi l i p GGGGGGGLLLLAAAASSSSSSSSSSS!

Whew...did it..wow!

Rick and Roll 12-08-2004 08:57 PM

Minumum is maximum!

Bravo! I see the 2 in 1 Minimum Vital just added to the Moon. I picked them up only last week and heard them TODAY. Then I see them on the Moon. What a coincidence!

They are outstanding! As is Sarabandes, which I also have.

Definitely look for them on the 12-19 show.

Rick and Roll 12-13-2004 09:46 AM

Suggestions!

Using the last two Moon updates (see prior posts here and the Moon main page), and any 2004 releases, please throw in some ideas for my next Rickter Scale show by Wed 12/15.

I want to catch up on that stuff, and I had planned to not worry about a set list.

The Mininum Vital will most likely be played in its entirety, leaving 2+ hours to fill.

Suggestions, please?

How about Random Selections from the Playlist. Scroll randomly, pick blindly, sit back and enjoy. Kinda like an extension of the Request Free Wednesday or something.

Just my $.02.

Roger -Dot- Lee, remember what you paid for it.

KeithieW 12-13-2004 06:55 PM

How(e) about........

Tracks including guitarists called Steve???????????

Take your pick from Vai, Morse, Howe, Hillage, Hackett........maybe more.

Solo and band contributions. Might be a blast. Certainly be some damned fine music.

PS. There's no guitarist called Steve in Don Cab, GY!BE, Unwed Sailor, Mogwai, Turing Machine etc. is there? If there is forget I ever spoke. :D :p

Rick and Roll 12-13-2004 08:46 PM

Good ideas both...

but, I will not be present on Sunday PM this week. The Steve idea is good (and I may do that in the future) but the idea is to play the new additions.

What I'm asking is what of the last two adds really floats your boat? For instance, the Minimum Vital I really like so that will be there.

Bands like Egg, Khan, Maheux, French TV, Fin Gauge, Am Vas, I know. But the others I'm fuzzy on.

If I don't get enough I'll do what Roger says and pick a song or two from each.

I just wanted to see what was required to play (like dude this song is cool etc). :D

mossy 12-13-2004 09:05 PM

Rick, I'd like to hear Chance.

The first track off the cd is really good, but any of my attempts to hear anything else through RQ have been futile to date, because I'm not on the computer long enough for the track to come around.

I'm right on the edge of buying the cd just cuz of the first track. Would love to hear the rest.

But I understand you might not want to take a chance on it (har har).

Anybody else able to add a bit more about this cd?

Sheesh next thing you know I'll be hearing "can ya play Community Chest"?

Sure I will. Any particular tunes (question to the "Chance groupies")....

How about three or four of the thus-far unheard selection from Chance? As far as community chest, I'd have to veto that, as the only community chest group I've ever heard of is a polka/dance group out of southwestern Wisconsin. Definitely not prog.

Roger -Dot- Lee, opinions 'r' us!

Have you heard any of them, dot? Aside from our mutual interest in the first track.

If not, take your pick Rickles. Would be lovely.

I haven't heard any but the one I popped on the stack when I originally loaded it. Yeah, I think it's time to showcase at least one of the rest, especially if they're even CLOSE to being as good as the first...

I got a list....now to do voices and such...

worn out!

Sampled a lot tonight....look for the list Thursday in the usual place.

You may have your thread back!:D

you won't go too far wrong with Chance - I would suggest "This Mystic Time", "Past To Present", or "Aquatic Fiction" - but all of it is pretty good.

Any other artist from that December 8 upload is going to make lots of people happy...

Looks like I didn't hit the 12/8 add as hard as the other one. Purely unintentional. Maybe I can make up for it at some point.

And the Chance tune is not one of the three above. I wish they paid me for listening to music...I would have sampled more tunes.

Oh well. Set list posted, still should be excellent....

Latest updates to the moon

Jim thought he could slip one by on me, but no. I'm far too crafty and on-the-ball to allow that to happen.

The fact that the new files had been sitting there for two days not withstanding, of course.

The first half of this list has already been posted on the main page, so I didn't bother posting them here. I posted them here now because I felt like it. So there. :p
  • Asturias - Brilliant Streams
  • Boffo, Jean-Pascal - Jeus De Nains
  • Cast - Imaginary Window
  • Chance - Escape To Horizon
  • Drama - Flying Over The 21st Century
  • Minimum Vital - Envol Triangles + Les Saisons Marines
  • Priam - 3 Distances-Irregular Signs
  • Rousseau - Square The Circle
  • Shylock - Ile De Fievre
  • Taal - Mister Green
  • Taal - Skymind

And the latest entries, as of last night:
  • Galleon - From Land To Ocean
  • Kaos Moon - The Circle Of Madness
  • Retroheads - Retrospective

Now there's some seriously good stuff in that list.

Enjoy!

Rick and Roll 12-18-2004 09:40 AM

next time....

I've copied this list for the next time I do Moon additions (sometime in Feb I think). This week has the Chance and the Minimum Vital covered.

Not that easy. I took it camping and still couldn't use it. (it's got a cool star chart as the cover) I think it might have been because I know Orion's Belt, Sirius, the dippers, and an occasional planet. That's it.

Avain I've failed you!

Anyway, good bunch of guys, Boud Deun.

yea!

Anything on the main page is a bonus, easier to find. And to have a link to the forums will spark more discussion. And making it easier on Roger will delay the inevitable of admitting him to the loony bin.

A win win win situation! Bravo Jim!

podakayne 12-29-2004 10:47 PM

i like the link

we are all prone to the path of least resistance....great idea the link...and you just keep expanding the playlist as i discover new additions to add...

always ready for more tunes

Taking the link idea to the next level...

How difficult would it be for the new additions listed in the forum to be actual links to that section of the playlist? Click on the artist's name & go to their listings; click on the cd title, and go to the song listings for that cd. Seems like that would encourage listeners to request new additions.

If you can figure out a way of figuring out the post number of the last post regarding the updates, bypassing the extra chatter, comments, cheap shots at Yesspaz that I love to take on occasion, cheap shots at Yesspaz that Keithie loves to take on occasion, cheap shots at Yesspaz that Rick loves to take on occasion, cheap shots at myself, Keithie, and Rick that Yesspaz loves to take on occasion, and other such frivolities that we all like to engage in on occasion, then ... er ... what was I saying? Oh yes. If you can figure out a way of getting past all that, then I'm all ears.

Unfortunately there IS no postid=Dr.Dot'sLastPostRegardingUpdates function in the system. I only wish there were.

Roger -Dot- Lee, if for no other reason than to record my prose for posterity (or would that be 'posterior'?)

KeithieW 01-04-2005 02:39 AM

Harrumph!!!!!!

My shots at Spaz are NEVER cheap. They cost me a lot.

Rick and Roll 01-04-2005 06:18 AM

general cheap shot

If you can find a link to only the music I like then I'm definitely all ears!

Steady Stan 01-04-2005 07:23 AM

I'm not a programmer, Dr. Dot

I thought it might be as simple as a hyper link. Obviously, if it was, you would have that figured out by now.

Exactly. If it was a hyperlink, I likely would have. Quite some time ago.

However, I am pondering a different way of doing it thanks to your suggestion (actually, more thanks to my response to your suggestion, but, well, you started it).

We'll see if it pans out.

my 2 cents

what I think Stan meant, (and if not, then I mean it) was when you (Roger-dot-lee) post here in the forums, make the band or album name a link to the playlist. Something like <a href="http://www.auralmoon.com/html/pnplaylist.php?search=band1"> band1 </a>

I know that href url is bogus, but you get the idea...don't you?

We will be somewhat limited by the behavior of the search script - but I think it will be cool if you can take the time to include a link or links...

I see what you're saying. I don't know if that's what Stan was asking, however. I got the impression that he wanted the link to go right to my ever-so-wonderous prose here in the forums.

Stan? Which did you mean? If you meant the search going to the playlist, then that'd be a lot more do-able than going straight to the post.

Actually, I'm liking that idea too. Putting search links in the posting is likely to be more do-able with a little experimentation...

Roger -Dot- Lee, at least more so than going straight to my posting from the front page...

Yeah, I tried to figure out how to go to the last post - and it ain't easy if it's even possible...

mossy 01-04-2005 08:16 PM

Dot, how's about having the most recent additions to the playlist coming up at the top of the thread rather than the last page. Just an idea and I know you're busy.

Interesting idea. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way of doing that on a forum by forum basis, and I don't know about how to do it on just the posts short of creating my own dot only forum. Don't want to do that because it'll cut down on the opportunities for ... feedback. :D

I like the way the ideas are going, though.

Steady Stan 01-05-2005 01:32 PM

What I meant was

for the posted addition to be a link to the playlist.

Thank you for grokking, Jim.

Rick and Roll 01-05-2005 04:31 PM

idea

Is there a way just to post the additions on the main page without putting them into the forums?

In other words, when the "latest playlist additions" is clicked, it simply brings up the new additions. Sort of like when you click "shows", the shows appear.

Having the additions in the forums seems to be a duplication of effort. As for feedback, one could always start a forum thread like "yeah that Steve Stevens rocks" or "yeah that Steve Stevens is a ahole".

After that is accomplished, it may be easier to link the new additions to the playlist as Stan has suggested. Although I see a few drawbacks to that.

So to summarize, the "latest playlist additions" is great on the main page, but we may want to consider not having the resultant forum thread at all.
