beat me to it!
Both of you guys hit the nail right on the head. It was an excellent question.
"Tell me why I had to be a Powerslave" |
Here's another crazy link question. Connect Rush to Kansas. Hint: A link at the beginning may involve people playing on one song of a solo album. Here's the format of how I did it:
Rush (person) (person) (person) (band) (person) (band) (person) Kansas |
I just came up with a completely different route that's longer but perhaps easier with the following format:
Rush (person) (person) (band) (person) (band) (person) (band) (person) (band) (person) Kansas This one's got more progressive rock relevance too. |
I just thought of a way to shorten the previous one:
Rush (person) (person) (band) (person) (band) (person) (band) (person) Kansas This is so much fun! |
I just thought of a few more variations. Due to the amount of possible answers, I'm expecting at least 3 from everybody.
|
Maybe a match?
I'm not sure if it's exactly one of the three suggested, but I have:
Rush Alex Lifeson Les Claypool Ozzy Osbourne (on a smokin' remake of N.I.B.) Black Sabbath Ronnie James Dio Rainbow Ritchie Blackmore Deep Purple Steve Morse Kansas |

Next question I'm going to do a 24 hour Aural Moon stint!!! |
Not what I had, but looks good. You could have gone straight from Sabbath to Deep Purple via Ian Gillan. Here's some of my possibilities.
Rush Geddy Lee Matt Cameron Tony Iommi Black Sabbath Ian Gillan Deep Purple Steve Morse Kansas Rush Geddy Lee Ben Mink FM Greg Critchley Mullmuzzler James Labrie Explorer's Club or Leonardo: Absolute Man Steve Walsh Kansas Rush Max Webster Kim Mitchell Greg Critchley Mullmuzzler James Labrie Dream Theater Jordan Rudess Dixie Dregs Steve Morse Kansas |
Old age
I should be flogged for not going through Ian Gillian. I was just going too fast.
Ben Mink and Max Webster were original guesses, but I took the easy way out. |
Ok, here were go.................
This is my last link question. If I get one right in the future, I'll try something like my numerical Genesis question.
Keith - I just realized Bernie Torme was on Ian Gillian's solo stuff, so I could have gotten really nasty on the question but here it is: Go from Progdirjim to Angus Young! Progdirjim artist artist brother of artist artist band artist x big hint - you can get to here easily by reading a post made by Jim! band artist band artist band artist * a small hint (and for extra credit) - in six steps from here you can get to Robert Fripp! band Angus Young Due to the nature of the hints, only one correct answer is acceptable. I just thought it was great fun to link Jim with Angus! |
Here's a "wrong" answer for everybody to chew on until someone gets the one you're going for:
progdirjim Larry Mitchell James East Nathan East Bryan Ferry Roxy Music Eddie Jobson Jethro Tull Martin Barre John Wetton Asia Chris Slade AC/DC Angus Young |
close, give it another try
You are OK up to Tull, and OK from Slade onward. You need:
Tull artist band artist band Chris Slade Will you get it Bob, or will someone sneak in! Remember the extra credit: Slade band artist band artist band Fripp Was Slade in Asia? If so, what a waste! A progressive goat walks into a bar, and says, "I'll have a Spock's Beard"! |
Incestuous smokers Roll their own.
progdirjim
Larry Mitchell James East Nathan East Bryan Ferry Roxy Music Eddie Jobson Jethro Tull Clive Bunker Aviator Mick Rogers M.M.E.B Chris Slade AC/DC Angus Young The extra credit is a tricky one. I've got: Chris Slade Uriah Heep John Wetton Asia Greg Lake King Crimson Robert Fripp But we could miss out the Asia-Lake link and it would still work. Edit: Just checked Chris Slade did tour with Asia. Also, Clive Bunker was in M.M.E.B for a while too. What an incestuous lot these Prog guys are!!!! I think that Bob has it!!!!! BTW: Appalling joke Rick. Next day the same goat walked into another bar. He ended up in hospital as it was an iron bar :o |
Keith -
The fact that the US celebrates Labor Day makes up for the time difference in this case!
You are correct - all answers are correct. Technically, you have the question. However, it looks like you are ceding control to Bob -please do as you wish. Chris Slade played with Uriah Heep too! Holy shit! He's a regular Simon F'ing Phillips! For the extra credit I had: Chris Slade The Firm Paul Rodgers Bad Company Boz Burrell KC Robert Fripp (I was going to go to Darryl Hall & then John Oates, but a 21-part question was a little much) - linking Jim to John Oates. Go for it, Keith or Bob! An appaling joke? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! |
Well as I'm here and bob's not..........
These are the first letters of the opening words to well known prog songs. What are the songs.
An example: PMOKCTIMDWY = Play Me Old King Cole, That I May Dance With You = Musical Box by Genesis. 1) KIWSNRTE 2) RDMIYSTOO 3) WATSRITTTO 4) HVGOTTSOLMHD 5) MUHACPTNKA 6) CFICNSSFM That'll do for now. To make it a little easier the bands in question and in no particular order are: Rush, Genesis, Moody Blues, King Crimson, Jethro Tull and Yes. Good luck......enjoy. |
You are the MAN!
I better get busy!

I did have an answer in this post, but then I realized the answer had already been given. In a valiant effort to avoid certain embaressment, I have edited the post, removing the offending response.
|
Go for it Bob
I'm taxing my brain too much on this - why don't you hit us with another question?
Rick |

We're not worthy, we're not worthy!!!!!!!!
Jeez Rick....I thought that might take you a bit longer than that!!!!!!!!!! Over to whoever for whatever. :D |
I was in the mood
If Bob doesn't come up with something in 48 hours, I will do another one.

This is the End.........
Wrong band I know but what the hell!!!!!!!
|
I can't think of anything original at the moment, so here's another link question. Connect Porcupine Tree to Pain of Salvation.
|
Seeing as how popular this thread is, would guys find it more useful if we had a Prog Trivia forum by itself to have multiple challenges going?
Avian |
Separate Forum.
I think it would be good to have it as a separate forum Avian but I think itbetter to keep the same format.
That is one question going at a time and the person who, in the opinion of the question setter, get's it right or closest. Multiple chalenges on other Forums I subscribe to just fall into chaos as people start setting things just because they've come up with an idea they think is "Clever". Separate Forum but same format would be my choice. How about you other regular quizzers? BTW Bob, That's a stinker for someone firmly rooted in all things 70s. |
Sorry for the delay
I only usually get to the forums if it's a response to mine, I just happened to be browsing.
Bob - I will work on your question. Avain - sure, move the thread if you like. As said on Stak Trak once - "Only a fool stands in the way of progress". |
I know it's not my turn, because I never get one right, but here's a question anyway. It's probably easy...
Who's the odd one out... Andy Summers Sting Steward Copeland |
Yes!!!!!
Once the connection hit, it all fell together -
Porcupine Tree Richard Barbieri Japan David Sylvian Robert Fripp King Crimson Tony Levin Liquid Tension Experiment Mike Portnoy Transatlantic Roine Stolt Flower Kings Daniel Gildenow Pain of Salvation High fives all around! Expect a different kind of question in a day or two. Yesspaz - not sure what you're driving at - I could name a lot of things, are we talking musically or otherwise? |
uh, sure, musically, Aural Moon-wise.
|
Re: Yes!!!!!
Quote:
Porcupine Tree Steve Wilson OSI Mike Portnoy Dream Theater James Labrie Explorers Club Steve Walsh Daniel Gildenlow (both Walsh and Gildenlow appear in Genius Rock Opera) Pain of Salvation |
I guess...
I better get cracking. Working on something involving animals and fruits, but not sure if it will go anywhere.
I see I went the long way again - but it fit so nicely. In the meantime, the Yesspaz question has me addled. Maybe I'll throw in a King's X reference to balance things out. |
More Genesis fun
Five weird questions:
1) Name the word that appears in two different Genesis songs, and was the one-word title of the only hit the Knickerbockers ever had (that song was also covered by Styx). 2) What distance does a Genesis mouse share with what you wouldn't touch an ugly woman with and also a ZZ Top song Title? 3) The second word in a Genesis song title is also the name of a famous hard rock band, and also is a word that appears in the title of a hit on the lead singer's first solo album. Name it. 4) Name the high-rising land form on a Genesis song from A Trick of The Tail, another high-rising land form that's the name of a Hackett solo tune, and even another high-rising land form that's personified on an old Zappa tune. 5) If you take that Zappa land form, combine it with the first word of the title of the Genesis tune in (3), what is the name of the song off of the first album by the hard rock band in (3)? |
Yowlee!!!!
Great question!!!!!!!
I expect by the time I wake up in the morning it will have gone but here's hoping........... Night Night! |
Quote:
Andy summers is there in his own right (with Mr Fripp) Stewart Copeland is in Curved Air. |
Difficult but......
I've got somewhere with them.
1) Lies 2) 10 Feet 4) Volcano, The Steppes, Billy the Mountain. With 3) is the Lead singer referred to a Genesis Lead singer or from "the famous hard rock band"? |
You are very close
1) is correct - "The Lady Lies" and of course the Lamb - the song Lies, a Beatles sounding tune, is covered by Styx on Man of Miracles as a replacement song on the CD for a tune called "Unfinished Song" on the album. Weird!
2) I wouldn't touch you with a tenfoot pole! says Billy Gibbons. The Genesis mouse is ten feet tall. And well, we've all had out share of alcohol-induced trysts with women that are, shall we say, not so beautiful. 3) this is easy, but I guess I did set off confusion here. The lead singer is from the hard rock band. 4) very nicely done! I thought this would be more difficult - and of course, Ethel was a tree growing off of his shoulder! 5) Once you get (3), you've got (4), I think you are there! It looks like the Police Yesspaz question looks correct. |
