you got it! I messed up in my haste to get a question out. I was looking for Kansas, then Livgren, then Ronnie Dio (he was on the Seeds of Change Livgren album) - but, I stuck Purple in after Dio, then went to Blackmore, and then all of the other answers are correct. The error - Dio was never in Purple!

A very egregious error, and I am embarrased.

Next time (if I ever get another question correct) I will not be so stupid.

I know I can link from Tull to anything else - I have a feeling, however, that the last three are Hawkwind, Lemmy, and Motorhead, and inexplicably, I am not the least bit familiar with Hawkwind. Oh well, I can at least play along!

The link before Hawkwind was the one I thought might be the hardest as this person only guested with Hawkwind on a tour or maybe two. I saw them together at the Canterbury festival a couple of years ago and they did 'Silver Machine' together.

As a clue, Carl Palmer used to be a member of his band before ELP but CP isn't the person I was looking for but thinking about it CP would fit the chain too.....another clue there.....this should steer you in the right direction.

I was looking through the website on Atomic Rooster (6) and then Chris Farlowe - I didn't know he did a version of "Stormy Monday" - is that the same song Tull covered in the 60's?

This is interesting. Two prominent names come to mind with Chuck Berry - Johnny Johnson and Willie Dixon. Now they both have ding-a-lings, and Chuck sang about his....no that's not it.

Zeppelin covered some Willie Dixon songs, and then Jimmy Page with the Yardbirds or Tom Jones, and John Paul Jones with Eno or Gabriel or REM or McCartney - you could drive yourself crazy.

Using the Wilie Dixon link, I can go backwards Berry, Dixon, Zeppelin, JPJ, Gabriel, Genesis - but I missed link #2.

Johnny Johnson and NRBQ hooked up, then you can get back to Paul McCartney. There's also Keith Richards in the equation.

I think I'll let wait and see which direction this goes in.

Gil Lavis was Squeeze's drummer for the majority of their albums. Before that, he worked as a touring drummer with Chuck Berry, according to AMG. Paul Carrack was a member of Squeeze for two albums, "East Side Story" and "Some Fantastic Place." After ESS, he went on to sing for M&TM. I just found it interesting that two bands that are miles apart on the style chart could be linked with only a few steps. Ask away, Bob, but I think I just proved the "six degress of Proggin' Bacon" has run its course, especially when there are so many technically correct answers!

It wasn't lack of interest in the question on my part, it was lack of knowledge. I could have easily gotten to Gilson Lavis, but I had no idea he had toured with Chuck. Good question!

I discovered I could link myself to almost anyone in the prog world pretty quickly. Larry Mitchell (who is on AM's playlist), played at my wedding. His bass player was James East, who's brother Nathan East played on a few of Bryan Ferry's solo albums. From there, Roxy Music/Eddie Jobson can get you anywhere you'd want to go. Now that would have been an unfair question!
