Ok,
Ok, here's the answer:
The group is The Doves, and the song is "M62 Song." Here's a link: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...vgqvadskl8w o Notice the writing credits for "M62." I annoint Extended Play the arbiter of the next question! |
No question from EP so...........
What are the songs?
Given the following lyric snippets give up the Song title, Album (no compilations or live albums) and Band. 1) Master of Images, songs cast a light on you. 2) Flee the icy Lucifer, Oh! He's an awful fellow. 3) Sundays I elude the 'Eyes' and hop the turbine freight. 4) We're breathing in the smoke of high and low, We're taking up a lot of room. 5) Play me Old King Cole, That I may dance with you. Pretty easy, huh???? |
1) Awaken, Going For The One, Yes
2) familiar, but drawing a blank, and it's making me crazy 3) Red Barchetta, Moving Pictures, Rush 4) another blank 5) The Musical Box, Nursery Cryme, Genesis 60%, that's as good as I get on these! |

The answer to one of them is playing on AM as I type....I can understand why it's driving you mad Rick. You LOVE this band!!! The other is a bit awkward as the playlist only lists a few tracks from this album and the song title isn't one of them. |
Tull
I was 99% sure the fellow one is Tull.

One more shot
I need to work! I will take one more shot before I go - is it from Thick As A Brick?
Also - see that you started the Guilty thread - will hit it over the weekend. |

A Passion Play?
Could it beeeeee?
|
It could and it is.....................
Only one to go. A clue to the last one. JH, JL, RT, GE and MP. SS LOMB. As you got 80% of them right Rick I think the next one should be from you. |
I see now...
Well it's the Moody Blues, but I'm not familiar with a lot of their work (I know, an uncultured slob).
I'll work on the next one. |
OK I'm ready
An easy one, a medium, and a hard one.
1) There's a fusion powerhouse from Buffalo that I never see mentioned here, but they're excellent. The band is named after percussion (with a tweak of the spelling). Who are they? 2) On a Tull song, Ian Anderson messes up his acoustic intro, utters and expletive and starts over. Name the song. Bonus - name another song Ian introduces by counting (there are a few). 3) In ten steps, make a link from David Byrne to the band UFO. Two hints: a) The link involves records actually played on. b) Link 5 is Jethro Tull. More hints available if needed. |
Excellent questions......
I'm working on them!!!!
|
Ian Anderson messes up on a song from "Minstrel in the Gallery," if I'm not mistaken. I've got Pink Floyd going on the MP3 right now, so I can't hear it in my head. Ummm....damn.
|
close enough
It's Baker St. Muse. Nicely done! You may need some hints on the others, but I will wait for more clamor.
|
"I'm just a Baker Street Muse...."
Damn. I should have gotten that, considering that "Minstrel" is probably my favorite Jethro Tull album. Ian introduces a lot of songs by counting, including "Wondering Aloud," if I'm not mistaken. Subsidiary question: what song does he introduce by counting, "1, 2, 3, 2, 2, 3..."? (I can't remember myself at the moment. Mea culpa. I thought your memory would improve when you quit smoking dope!) |
Sealion
That's the tune I was thinking of when I asked the question.
Regarding the main question - a hint - David Byrne played with Brian Eno (most memorably for me on "My Life In The Bush of Ghosts"). Now that you have that, can you get from Eno to Tull? That's probably easier than getting from Tull to UFO. But no hints until the Eno to Tull link is made. And no bites on the "easy" question? |
Clues required I think.....
Still no bites.....
How about a clue? |
As requested
As said, Byrne (link 1) played with Eno (2). Now, fill in the numbers:
Eno played with (3). (3) played with (4). (4) played on a 1980's Jethro Tull album (5). (4) is someone who has been mentioned prominently in another thread. Link (6) is a drummer from Tull, who played both on the studio albums and toured (I saw him) with a guitarist (7). Link (7) was the lead guitarist with (8) on this band's 2nd through 4th or 5th albums. If I give you link (9) it may give it away too soon. I already may have done this, since link (10) is UFO. Now is you head spinning? It may take me a 12-24 hours to post back, so good luck. One more hint on the first question. This fusion band is no longer together, and put out three studio record and a live album with a sax player (all from 1987-1992). |
3) Bryan Ferry
4) Eddie Jobson 5) Jethro Tull 6) Clive Bunker 7) Steve Hillage 8) Gong 9) ??????? Schenker ???????? 10) UFO |
this should do it
#3 I was thinking Manzanera, but 6 half dozen the other or however that saying goes.
You have correctly guessed Clive Bunker. This is difficult, considering the pool of drummers to choose from in Tull. Now, to tie it together. First, I am a little confused - did Bunker play with Hillage? If so, another factoid I did not know. Or was that Archie Bunker? You only need #'s 7 & 8. Again, you have correctly guessed Michael Schenker. This should give you #8 easily (see prior clues), which should lead you into #7, which will then complete the link. I kind of thought #7 would be the stumper. |
Clive Bunker
CB played on Hillage's "Live Herald" album along with Colin Bass recently (and not so recently) of Camel.
Right I'm off to give it another go..........damn you!!!! :D |
OK, how about...........
1) David Byrne
2) Eno 3) Bryan Ferry/Phil Manzanera 4) Eddie Jobson 5) Jethro Tull 6) Clive Bunker 7) Uli Jon Roth 8) Scorpions 9) Michael Schenker 10) UFO I like UFO. for me their best album is the live double "Strangers in the night". Love 'lights out' and 'rock bottom' from that one. |
yes!
Very nicely done. Ulrich Roth was very flashy with the Scorps, but I saw him after his "religious transformation". He was still good, and threw in Virgin Killer as an encore.
I doubt that David Byrne would like UFO, but we do! I totally agree with your assessment about the live record. Maiden had Doctor Doctor playing over the speakers before they came on. Another band where I like the live record the best is Thin Lizzy's "Live and Dangerous". One of my most played records. The answer to the first one is Gamalon. The Reinhardt brothers laid down the beat, and George Puleo supplied the guitar flash, while Bruce Brucato supplied the guitar style. They did a live album with Ernie Watts. Fusion and rock afficionados would love their first (and only?) three studio efforts. Check it out! |
Another Link type question......
Get from 1) Yes to 10) Brian Davison.
The links go Band,Name,Band,Name........... I think it's REAL easy but then again I would as I'm setting the question. :D :D :D |
Got it
Yes
Steve Howe Asia Carl Palmer ELP Keith Emerson The Nice Brian Davison That's only 8 - did I miss some? |
Ha Ha!!!!!
You missed out 2 and one of the answers you gave is wrong.
|
Howe?
(pardon the pun) am I wrong? I am confused. Ha ha back!
|
You would be right......but
I asked for the link in 10 steps and you only gave 8.
The ones in the middle are a couple I stuck in there to make it a little harder. Seems like it worked. SO, you need to change one of the answers in your list and work on from there adding another two in to get to Mr Davison. BTW Did you work backwards on this one cos' that is definitely the easiest way to go. |
Howe about (I love that pun)
Yes
Trevor Horn Buggles Geoff Downes Asia Carl Palmer ELP Keith Emerson The Nice Brian Davison |
Howe about......as you like it so much
I give it to you.
I was thinking: Yes Steve Howe Asia John Wetton King Crimson Greg Lake ELP Keith Emerson The Nice Brian Davison The "Bed Hopping" that goes on in this era probably means that there are more routes but I can't see one at the moment. Over to you Rick.........nice question format by the way. |
in the meantime
While I think of one (may be a day or so), could be
Yes Steve Howe GTR Max Bacon 3 (I think Max Bacon was on one or more songs) Carl Palmer Asia John Wetton King Crimson Greg Lake Pete Sinfield (just kidding) ELP Emerson Nice Davison oh... that's 14. By the waye, Keith (ooh a terrible pun!) check out that Gamalon - you will love it. |
ok, here's one
I was going to go in a different direction for the next question, but since you like the format so much, let's keep it going. This one is easier than my last one, but not as easy as yours, Keith.
Go from Kansas to King Crimson in ten steps. Kansas is 1, and KC is 10. As in my other question, there's a difficult link - if you get that, the others will fall like dominoes. One hint - it goes Kansas, artist, artist, band, artist, band, artist, band, artist, Crimson. To answer an earlier question, Keith - I did initially start out backwards on your question, and once I connected Palmer and Howe, I was almost there. |
I'll get on to it!!!!
BTW: I like puns too. I'm also not as young as I once was.....does that make me a Pun Crock??
|
I'm working on RnR's question, but beating a dead horse, I can answer Keith's in 16 instead of 14 - just go Yes-Bruford-Genesis-Hackett-GTR and continue from there...:o
|
Geez, I can go from Kansas to Crimson in 6 steps, but I can't figure out how to take up 10 yet....
|
duh, you gave me the answer yourself.
how about: Kansas Steve Morse Steve Howe (played on Morse's first solo album, maybe others) GTR Max Bacon 3 Carl Palmer Asia John Wetton King Crimson |
This is cool
You have the answer right (ten steps) but the middle eight are all different from mine!
Let's try this - insert Cozy Powell for Carl Palmer, and see what you get! |
Kansas
Kerry Livgren or Steve Walsh Steve Morse Deep Purple Ritchie Blackmore Rainbow Cozy Powell Emerson, Lake & Powell Greg Lake King Crimson (although that's really nine, since Steve Morse was in Kansas so I don't really need Livgren or Walsh. What am I missing?) |
