yeah, remember that this isn't a closed forum.
lurkers and visitors judge the site by what's
being said here.

let's hope a few of them stay.
every forum's different, it takes a while to
find the feel. give them that chance.

a bickering handful of clique-ish regulars
does not a forum make.:D

I thought the thread was a joke at first. Anyway, it doesn't matter much if someone wants to say something sucks. I can always choose to respond if I want.

As for the quote above, that kind of strikes a nerve. I don't like to be perceived as clique-ish, it implies a shallowness and lack of tolerance for opinions. I hate cliques, fraternaties, and the like.

That being said, I can see where you're coming from, kirk. The "bickering" does make it seem like we're a bunch of snobs to the "outside world".

But it's easy to catch a false impression - after a few times of looking at "producer of the year", it can be perceived as a superiority thing (although I'm certain it is not intended as such).

I post so much because it is so easy and is a great way of communication. And I can't help if we have differences. Hopefully we can get some other differences in here too!

So what I am trying to say is that I do not care what the perception is, because I cannot control it. I can only do my best to be fair and open-minded. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't............

I agree with you kirk.

When I first started posting in the Forum the most popular threads were "What are your 3 fave Pink Floyd Tracks" or "What are your 3 unfave Yes tracks" that sort of thing. I've seen it grow to a point where meaningful intelligent discussion ensues from what might, at first, seem a vey innocuous beginning.

Mostly this is done with good humour but like all families, and I firmly believe that this is what Aural Moon has become, there are the odd moments of sulking and tantrem throwing. This is good and natural.

As for the cliqueishness (is that a word?), every forum I post to has it's band of regulars. I think that's probably because they just happen to be the ones who feel the most passionate about their subject.

Anyone visiting Aural Moon's forum would generally, I think, be impressed with the intelligent discussion and the humour that goes into it. I feel there is a good balance here and we don't take ourselves so seriously that we're not averse to having the piss taken out of us if we make a bit of a screw up from time to time as will always happen.

Of course, the reason that I post so often is really that I've got too much time on my hands and should go and get a proper job......:D

If radio you're listening to is not your personal station then it is not possible to have the whole playlist consisting of artists you like. Compromise is essiental aspect of Internet radio functioning. That's why I listen to Tales, Keithie listens to Amarok :D
Let's listen to Rush then. :) ...

... especially as it is superb band.

the best reponse to this

How interesting my harmless request engendered so much antagonism. Well, no problem , I can take it.

Fact is, I like dozens if not hundreds of groups, and many other forms of music. There is also a large assortment of music I dislike.

Now what was happening is this. I like most of the AM stuff that's played, or at least can tolerate it as background music. On occasion, something absurd and annoying is played (imo , of course, {faux humble}) and I was finding it to be RUSH, much of the time.

Simple as that. I couldn't tell you the name of one RUSH song, I'm not a fan, never was. I do know what I can't stand though and apparently RUSH is on that admittedly longish list.

Now why someone would be so offended at that , that they would want me kicked and banned, well, I'll leave that to greater intellects to decipher.

And yes, I go back far enough that I bought Procol's Shine On Brightly when issued.

If anything, the short shrift Procol gets these days as Prog pioneers (and rare playtime) should offend me.

PS, I'm not too crazy about Dream Theatre either. Like the Flower Kings though.

Like I said in my original reply welcome to the Moon's Forum. We're a passionate bunch around here and love our music. Why not come into the chatroom some day and see what goes on? We have plenty of discussion and a lot of laughter.

Look forward to seeing you there OldSod.

Feel free to request Procol Harum - we have a fair selection of their music on the playlist...

We don't think much of Dream Theater either...

kirk 07-06-2004 12:19 PM

pdj- re: procol harum-

"whiskey train" w/ robin trower-
"conquistodor" from the live w/
the edmonton symphony album-
"bringing home the bacon"-
"simple sister"
"a salty dog"
all early days of college FM staples,
most of these are available on the "best of.."
--------------

has there been much discussion of why
most here don't care for dream theater?

for my tastes, there's too much "damn, ain't i a virtuoso"
going on. they need to learn to shift gears,
show the ability to be subtle.
to me, that's the mark of a great prog band.
i've always admired pieces like "echoes" for
the simplicity, while maintaining an emotional connection.
30 years down the road, the piece holds up.
i guess that's it. i don't "connect" w/ dream theater.

I agree 100% with the sublety, that's my reason too!

Yes there has been a LOT of discussion - I own 5 Dt CD's. But Images and Words is the only one I think stands up. And I'm sorry they're touring with Yes.

IT'S OFFICIAL!

My internet provider (comcast) said today that PROG-ROCK PIONEERS Rush are releasing their new record today.

There it is! The mainstream has spoken! They are prog!

I have this album. Not only because of the retrospective kind of tracklist in my opinion this is the first album since 1981 which reminds me of the good old Rush from the 70's. Again they sound as they sounded 25-30 years ago - brilliant!!!! Perhaps it is naive but after Feedback again I believe that someday they will record album in the classic Rush style. If they dare to sound as in the old times, why not to make further step?!

Rick and Roll 07-06-2004 12:52 PM

I like the hogman....

At the risk of setting off another Rush discussion, I'm glad you didn't say Vapor Trails was good old Rush.

agreed re: images and words. "pull me under" is probably my favorite D.T. tune (forced to choose).

i have a feeling that jordan rudess may take
the keys chair for yes sometime down the road
if wakeman flakes (yet again).
