"Would you like to see the Pope at the end of a rope do you think he's a fool" on it's own is offensive, but when you realize Ozzy is actually singing it in a pro-God tune (After Forever) it kind of fits (and musically the meter he uses works). He's actually ribbing the non-religious.

I haven't met anyone yet who had heard Lateralus and NOT liked it. I would be interested in hearing from that person..........

I know someone who loathes Lateralus. Someone really special to me, by the name of Andy. *heart*... But yeah, he thinks Lateralus is a crap version of Aenima. Redundant, drawn out,... and he doesn't like Lateralus's lyrics, either. Heh he told me he was going to steal my Lateralus and throw it out the window! But yeah ;P

And there are a lot of people out there that think Lateralus is
by far Tool's worst album.

I agree totally about the lyrics. I actually don't own a copy of Aenima because of them. I was ecstatic when Lateralus came out and it wasn't filled with profanity and inflammatory diatribes on Christianity.

I liked Chevelle when I first heard them, but I quickly got bored with them. I've unfortunately come to think of them as a poor man's Tool (which probably isn't fair or accurate). It seems to me that if you take Tool, add some simple chord progressions, remove the clever use of dynamics, and make everything sound less polished, you get Chevelle.

Substitute any band in there, and it is very true. There are precious few acts that can sustain anything without getting stale. Everytime an Alice In Chains puts out "Man In The Box" or "Would", or a Soundgarden puts out "Outshined", they come back with crap. I thought STP was going to be it after their great first record, but they've faltered since.

Still waiting for a really great hard rock band to come back.....
