good one

I was thinking Lenny white for 9 orig cause they did Beyond the 7th Galaxy - but I think you're right!

I already thought of some good ones for keyboards, but I still only have 5 correct.

moses 01-16-2004 09:14 AM

#6

I thought #6 was Terry Bozzio (Missing Persons)

Rick and Roll 01-16-2004 10:04 AM

ONLY THE SHADOW KNOWS (Jim)

but I think you are right Moses!

Good, let's get some new blood in here.

6)Where is this guy? - Terry Bozzio
7)Snake
8)He once performed very dense drumming
9)Beyond Pluto - Virgil Donati
10)Oh no!

Rick - 5 (keep working on the keyboard question, since you'll have the most)
Keith - 1
Moses -1
good job - though I'm surprised no one has gotten 8 yet. But I don't think anyone needs clues yet...

Rick and Roll 01-16-2004 09:46 PM

I have so far at least 8 for the next one, no hurry, shoot for early next week.

The only Snake I know is the cat from Voivod, but they're not on AM!

Could 8) be referring to Barrimore Barlow (Thick As A Brick?) An excellent and underrated tactician of the drum kit.

each answer is a drummer you can hear somewhere on Aural Moon.

BBarlow it is, Rick. I agree, very underrated. Two left, probably the hardest of the bunch...

KeithieW 01-17-2004 04:27 AM

Another shot in the dark........

7)Snake - Doane Perry, Jethro tull (again) plays on the track Black Mamba?

10)Oh no! - Rod Morgenstein, Dixie Dregs plays on Aftershock.

Yesspaz 01-17-2004 03:15 PM

#7

#7 is Josh Baruth of the Appleseed Cast. His nickname is Cobra. All the liner notes to all TAC's albums say something like...

Christopher Crisci: Guitar, Vocals
Cobra: Drums
Aaron Pillar: Guitar...

etc...

KeithieW 01-17-2004 03:43 PM

Another stab....

10) Alan White - Plastic Oh No!! Band.

You guys are awesome! Final score - Rick - 6; Moses - 1; Yesspaz - 1 (I knew you'd get Cobra spaz, and that no one else would); Keithie - 2

Time to tickle the ivories

Continuing on the theme, here are ten more brain busters. The first eight appear on Aural Moon, and the last two do not, but are very well known.

A major hint: all of the clues except for #8 are variations on the keyboardist's name only - no albums, no other references.

1) Swank times by the river?
2) Sweet dreams are made of this namesake.
3) Put-off in the Middle East?
4) Illegal smoke on the water?
5) Jesus loves your wife more than you will know!
6) Revolutionary Prog hero?
7) European high flier, but neither an eagle or a birdie.
8) Finally over the hump, but sadly late, too soon.
9) King of the toilets!!!
10) British cop in sheep's clothing?

1 - Tony Banks
5 - Andrew Robinson (Magus)
6 - John Paul Jones
9 - Alan Loo but you probably mean Elton John

Rick and Roll 01-18-2004 09:21 PM

way to correct it!

I was set to reply to your guesses and JPJ appeared!

1 and 6 are right!

I need another Robinson for #5. I'll give you 1/2.

progdirjim 01-18-2004 09:23 PM

I didn't know you were on-line, so I was editing the post. I'll stop that. Elton John is number 9. and John Robinson from French TV for #5

Rick and Roll 01-18-2004 09:43 PM

no, that's cool

no need to stop editing posts!

Keith's gonna kill you if you get them right!

Elton John is another good guess, but it does not exactly fit the answer.

I'll give you the Robinson one, since you've already said two of them - Peter from Brand X was it, but there's nothing in the first name that means anything to the clue.

Rick and Roll 01-18-2004 09:45 PM

to recap

Jim has three already! Vive le time difference!

progdirjim 01-18-2004 10:44 PM

2 - Rick Wakeman
3 - Jordan Rudess
7 - Par Lindh

Yeah, Right!!!!!!!!!!

Sod le time difference. I'll never get another look in at this rate.

But I'll go for;

8) The late, great Peter Bardens.

Rick and Roll 01-19-2004 07:02 AM

I feel your pain Keith

Jim has 1,3,5,6,7 and Keith has 8. Damn Jim I thought Rudess would be harder!!!

Keith next time I'll post this in the morning. But, there's still four left. Oh, Wakeman is not right, and #2 should be an easier one. #4 is difficult, and 9 & 10 are not on AM, and Jim has eliminated two guesses on #9 already!

KeithieW 01-19-2004 08:32 AM

10......this really is a shot in the dark.

Bobby Womack???????

Rick and Roll 01-19-2004 08:36 AM

only because I like you

Got the Bobby part right, now go for the sheep...

No no! I mean the clue! Phew, that was close.

Rick and Roll 01-19-2004 09:04 PM

Any more guesses?

Still four left:

2 and 4 are on Aural Moon, 9 & 10 not, but still very well-known.

Let me know when hints are needed.

2) Sweet dreams are made of this namesake.
4) Illegal smoke on the water?
9) King of the toilets!!!
10) British cop in sheep's clothing?

So far, Jim - 5, Keith - 1

progdirjim 01-20-2004 01:00 AM

I'm thinking #2 is Rick Wright

and even if I'm wrong, I'm definitely still playing - just quite busy with work today...

wild guess for #9 - Pigpen from the Greateful Dead

KeithieW 01-20-2004 02:49 AM

I got number 2.......still working on the others.

2) Sweet dreams are made of this namesake.

Dave Stewart - i) Egg, Hatfields and ii) Eurythmics

4) Illegal smoke on the water?
9) King of the toilets!!!
10) British cop in sheep's clothing?

So far, Jim - 5, Keith - 1

Rick and Roll 01-20-2004 07:01 AM

5 to 2! He's gaining!

I was wondering when Dave Stewart would be guessed!

Still steamed about Jordan Rudess - what a guess!

Pigpen not right - but, one of the remaining also has a one word solution!

Left are 4,9,10.

moses 01-20-2004 09:39 AM

Got one!

Quote:

4) Illegal smoke on the water?
That would be Seaweed (Ozric Tentacles)

Rick and Roll 01-20-2004 10:08 AM

Moses parts the Weed Sea!

Well done, that was probably the hardest of the bunch!!!!! (except for maybe Rudess).

Jim 5, Moses 1, Keith 2.

Left are the two non-AM keys, 9 & 10.

Hint: Each was guessed half-right, previously.

progdirjim 01-20-2004 12:17 PM

it wasn't a guess - I KNEW :D

progdirjim 01-20-2004 12:31 PM

#9 - John Myung (Played with what's his name from King's X)
- John Gosling (Kinks close to King)

at some point you gotta give me this one for the sheer magnitude of the number of my wrong guesses!

John Tout - "Tout" close to Tut
John Tesh - he's the king of cheese
John Novello, John Medeski, John Evan, John "Rabbit" Bundrick, John Linnell, Dr. John, John Young.......... :o

Rick and Roll 01-20-2004 12:44 PM

no begging!

side note: I meant to say what a deduction, not guess, although Seaweed was inspired, too!

Let's see, this toilet thing has you flushed! Let's make it easier - the first name is Jon, not John (so sue me for poetic license).

And #10 plays with a band named after a city.................

progdirjim 01-20-2004 12:47 PM

Jon Lord! duh!

progdirjim 01-20-2004 12:48 PM

and Bobby Lamm of Chicago....

good ones...

progdirjim 01-20-2004 12:49 PM

It may take me a day or two to come up with a question, so if Keithie or Moses has one ready, go ahead!

Rick and Roll 01-20-2004 01:00 PM

bow to the master............

Final tally - Jim 7, Keith 2, Moses 1.

Nicely solved!

As the Guardian of Forever said on Star Trek, "I await your question".

progdirjim 01-20-2004 01:37 PM

Okay, we've done bass, drums, guitars, keyboards. What's left? Fortunately, at least one more question in the world of prog! The following are cryptic clues to musicians somewhere on Aural Moon who play an instrument OTHER than the above as their main instrument. (I'm not including vocalists who don't play an instrument.)

He's on the bridge of the Enterprise
Drink named after diner owner
Nose drain an enigma
The ultimate beggar
Large, unintimidating stringman
A decent fellow, despite who he hangs out with
Nice TV, lady!
Sasquatch (guitar is actually this guy's main instrument, but he plays another instrument too)
Honest felines

only 9 this time, so there can't be a two way tie! plus, a few of these might be kind of obscure...

Rick and Roll 01-20-2004 02:01 PM

that was a quick day!

The Jim solar day....

what's left? all kinds of things - but a great question.

Let's see - I'll guess Ray Shulman (violin) for #5. Phil on Trumpet and Derek on sax are others, but not strings.

For # 1, it's got to be one of the big three. Sulu and Chekov don't work...

What makes yours difficult is that I don't know if it's a band, artist, or other clue - but since they are all on the Moon, it makes it very challenging. Usually I think of a name and match it to the clue.

For instance, Morris Pert I was fitting in to #9, but it doesn't work.

Rick and Roll 01-20-2004 02:03 PM

#6 decent fellow

Jerry Goodman! Great clue!

Morris Pert is wrong, but a good guess! I kind of wish I had included percussionists now...

Rick and Roll 01-20-2004 02:33 PM

That's OK

you can do that as another one!

Well I've spent enough time here, going to take my 2 pt lead into the evening....

progdirjim 01-20-2004 03:06 PM

Don't want to mislead

I sort of did include one percussionist...
