The Genesis song is "Silver Rainbow" and Rainbow's lead singer, Ronnies James Dio had a song called "Rainbow In The Dark" on his first ablum, Holy Diver.

The Man on the Silver Mountain

Hmmm...what to do!

KW does the legwork and Powerslave swoops in for the kill!

Gentlemen, please work out a plan - a question each?

Well done!

Yesspaz 09-05-2003 09:40 AM

Yeah, that works...

Yeah, that's it. Sting is the only member of the Police not represented on AM. But I was thinking only about Stewart Copeland being on AM because he's in Oysterhead. I forgot about Curved Air.

Great job, KW.

Yesspaz-Questions

Isn't there a thing Copeland did with Stanley Clarke? Animal Logic I think its called. Is that more pop than prog (in other words, not AM-worthy)?

Also, what's the side projects that the Ty Tabor does sound like? I recall he's got at least two. I might be wrong, but is one called Jelly Jam and has Morgenstein and Myung? How do you rate these?

Still can't see it. I'll keep looking.

KeithieW 09-05-2003 09:59 AM

Stupid sod......

I didn't see the next page that had the answer from our Maiden Fan.......sorry guys.

Powerslave to set the next one as punishment for my stupidity!!!!

Over to you "Eddie".

I've got The Jelly Jam (which is indeed with Morgenstein and Myung) and like it alot. My only problem is it seems to run out of steam in the second half, but the first half more than makes up for it. Ty's also got Platypus with Sherinian, Morgenstein, and Myung which can be heard on AM, as well as Jughead with Sherinian and a pair of Bisonettes. I've heard Jughead being played a couple times before King's X concerts, and it's pretty good stuff (a bit poppier than Ty's other groups though).

Rick and Roll 09-05-2003 10:50 AM

Thanks!

I guess they're the Bisonettes of among many others, Satriani fame.

Maybe if Ty put in an idea or two in the main band, their last three or four CD's would match the older classic King's X.

Got to put them on my list to get, thanks Bob!

Ty Tabor

I don't have The Jelly Jam, but I have the first Platypus album, and it's killer. 1 KX + 1 Dreg + 2 Dreamers = Rawk and Roll.

If you like side projects, check out Poundhound, Doug's group where he plays bass and guitar. I noticed you're not fond of the later KX where they became less porg/more funk (except "Mr. Bulbous" - very prog). Poundhound is funky. I like funk however, as can be noted in my post on Guilty Pleasures (Parliament, Sly). I absolutely LOVE "Tape Head" and "Manic Moonlight" took awhile to grow on me, but I like it too. The only album by KX that is not up to par in my opinion is "Ear Candy." In saying that, the first two thirds of the disc are incredible. Then it goes pfft.

So anyway, you can go to www.kingsxonline.com and order Ty's solo albums too. I don't have those, so I'm no help on recommendations there.

Rick and Roll 09-05-2003 02:06 PM

Clarification

The Poundhound I'm somewhat familiar with. I also enjoy the funk (also in prior posts) - it's just that I think KX later records lack
an edge - Dogman was the last one that I thought was consistent. The others have gaps, and Manic's got a muffled sound to it. Sort of like Vapor Trails!

I really don't think that as a whole, any one record is more funky or prog (or whatever the term-du-jour may be) than any other of their records. There are certainly songs with elements of each. "Sometimes" off the first and some off of "Manic" are funky. "Pleiades" and "She's Gone Away" are proggy.

The difference I see is a lessening of Ty's influence in the band. He sems to balance out Doug, who goes for more simplistic sounds. If I had to choose, though, I rather hear Doug. He just can't seem to finish a song.

That being said, I own them all. By no means do I dislike any of their stuff. They are still one of my favorite bands. They just set the bar too damn high.

And a 17-minute live "Vegetable" was a special highlight of mine.

Thanks for the heads up! And nice mathematical formula!

Back to the questions..........

Sorry Powerslave I have to ask this one.

1) Who links William Shakespeare with Peter Banks and Keith Emerson.

2) Resolve this cryptic clue to a famous prog album:
"Gamboling youngster rests somewhere in New York".

3) If 64 S on a CB = 64 Squares on a Chess Board solve:
i] A is a T on GFT1
ii] "666 INLA"
iii] 50,000 MBMB by 10YA

4) What are the bands whose members initials were:
i] NM, RW, SB, RW
ii] GM, GC, DM, JR, DM
iii] TvL, HC, MD, JA

OK?

Rick and Roll 09-07-2003 07:05 PM

A quick pass

1) Is the answer Keith Waye?

2) Too easy (Lamb)

4) iii is Focus

Keith - is this an interim question? Should Powerslave get a few more days?

KeithieW 09-08-2003 02:18 AM

Yes it's an interim question.

Thought I'd give you guys some thinking time while Powerslave gets back.....I guess he doesn't have as much time as the rest of us.

BTW: I hope your work situation is only temporary Rick. I know how it feels having been made redundant a year ago. I'm twiddling my thumbs until my next course starts in a few weeks time.......and posting a lot to AM, of course.

1) Is VERY wrong.......the answer is an American musician not normally associated with the Rock world.

2) Is correct of course.

4) iii] Is right too. (The others we've recently discussed in other threads.

3) ????? Get onto it!!!!!

3)i] Anderson is a twit on Going For The One? :D
ii] 666 is no longer alone

Rick and Roll 09-08-2003 02:06 PM

A few more

The other one is Ten Years After (somebody else will have too get the other part).

I like Jim's answer!

Keith - re-ask the missed ones!

Come on.

Jon Anderson is a poet, leader, musician, visionary. You know who says so? He does. In the 1978 tour programme.

Trouble is, He's right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great job, KW.

We also have some solo Stewart Copeland here, an album he did in the 80's for IRS No-Speak label.
