My French level is at an equivalent level to my Swahili level. IE I know it exists, I've heard that other people might speak it, but that's about the extent of it.

Now Russian, that's another story. I can actually say such things as "That is a very nice Kalishnikov." and "Comrade Stalin would be rolling in his grave if he were alive today."

But French? Not my cup of Borshch.

Didn't you two say exactly the same thing? The song is than and mislabelled as then, wasn't it?

Evidently my humor missed the mark (not surprising).

English, by its very definition, is not an easy language to learn. My point was that to be grammatically correct, it would be 'than', and not 'then'. It's one of those little things that confuse even natural born english speakers, and forces American English teachers to utter such phrases as "I'll take a double rye on the rocks."

A look through my spam folder on my email client shows some interesting bastardizations of the language. It's like someone found a thesaurus and tossed it into a food processor, hoping that I'd buy their knock-off rolex from them. But I digress.

As for the song itself, I can only go based on what's in the file and what I can find on the web. My research has shown that the title is "Ruth is Stranger Than Richard". The 'Then' phrase turned up zero google hits, where as the 'Than' version turned up several (including a pointer to the Monty Python sketch Ministry of Silly Walks. Make of that what you will).

Anyway, when I went to look at the entry in the station, it showed up as 'Than', so if it was labelled as 'Then', then someone fixed it before I got to it.

And my French sucks. Trust me. I know better than to even try to converse with someone in French. With the exception of one weekend this summer, the last time I was anywhere near a French speaking area was 1982 in Montreal. I butchered the language then, and I'd butcher it now.

So Rick, I don't know if your posting should be answered with a 'yes', a 'no', a 'someone beat me to the fix', or 'Machina improba! Vel mihi ede potum vel mihi redde nummos meos!'

Now if you'll all excuse me, I'm going to go lay down. I think I just hurt myself.

Well, since Wobbler was actually part of the Interzone show and is not officially part of the Aural Moon music library, it shouldn't have been visible. It wasn't playing because it wasn't imported into the library properly.

That's been fixed.

According to the CD, it IS Refelections, however upon Googling(*) I found three sources where it should be Reflections.

(*) Googling: verb. To use the Google Search Engine to determine a given bit of information.

Gotta LOVE English. Not only do we freely and willfully pilfer words from wherever we wish, but we even make them up on the spot. No wonder people have such problems with this language. It even confuses us native speakers sometimes.

The way I read the posting was that it was supposed to be THEN. I may have misread, it wouldn't be the first time.

Part of the problem is with making sure things are grammatically correct vs. what the song title actually is. Just because a song title doesn't follow precise rules of grammar doesn't mean it's not the title. Music is littered with such examples (since, by and large, most musicians aren't as fluent in the language as others). Just because something is grammatically incorrect doesn't by definition it's an error with the song. Maybe that's what the artist intended. There have been a couple of times that I've gone digging for the precise title of a song on Google only to find it BOTH ways. If I can get a track listing from an authoritative source, that's the one I go with.

Hope that clears things up. And yes, I double check just about every requested change that I implement, no matter who puts the correction in. About the only person I haven't caught with an error is 'Spaz, largely because he does the same research before he submits a correction (often sending me a link for verification). Oh, and you too, Rick, too, for largely the same reason (though I don't think you've ever sent me the link. That's OK, though, since you're usually proven right after a quick search anyway).

In short, I guess I'm saying that before you submit a correction, make sure that it's incorrect and not designed that way.

Roger -Dot- Lee, Google is your friend.

Exactly. That's why I don't jump up and immediately fix everything that gets pointed out. Just because it LOOKS wrong doesn't mean that this isn't the actual name of the song in question.

Oh, and Spaz: who's that in your avatar?

Hi,

I don't need "googling" because I 've got both the good old vinyl and the remastered cd.
Actually , my job needs often carefull checks before taking a decision or assessing a situation. So I do the same each time I send AM a so-called "error".
To end the discussion [ refer to your two long digressions], I dare to say that I find your 'wise-guy- side ' quite irritating.

before my internet cuts out, I'll take this one. King's X (center -Ty Tabor, left - Doug Pinnick, and right - Jerry Gaskill), with the ubiquitous Paul Shaffer, who never met a photo op he didn't like...

By the way, does Return of the Giant Hogweed still have three e's on the playlist? (I think there's a bunch more that never got corrected due to lack of time and follow-up).

Damn I lost my whole post cause my net keeps failing..ok again..

Looks like Hogweed is completely missing from the playlist!

A while back I mentioned "Home By The Sea" and "Second Home By the Sea" should be put together as one tune...neither works separately. This may have been part of the "splitting of songs" thread...in any event, it was never done.

There's a few more I know were never done, so i have a suggestion.

Why not make a new section in the forums for just corrections? Then have a separate thread for each correction. In that manner, we can have closure on each request. Also, the requests can be organized such that Dot can handle them. There's a lot of them, and he is mega-busy. Even so, there should be a mechanism to fix them. We all get off on tangents and miss the original rq's... and this thread is too damn big!

What do you all think?

I know. I've been going through the list and correcting them as time allows. However, as Rick suggests below, I just don't have the time that I'd like to dedicate to this project. Thus...

And for everyone's information, the reason I can't do them all at once is because, whenever someone's diddling with the station, rebuffering happens all over the place. So I try to schedule it for whenever things are not all hectic and stuff. Just an FYI on that one.

What, it's ONLY 11 pages!

(if you happen to have 100 posts per page like I do. It's probably closer to 30 pages with the default setting).

By George, I think you're on to something. As a matter of fact, I *REALLY* like that idea. All we have to do is get Steady Stan to check in and start it (just to keep things consistent. :) )

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. The only problem I can think of off hand is that I'd have to check the forum (as opposed to having an email sent to me every time someone spots one)...

Hrm. Maybe a PM would be in order if your RQ goes un-fixed or un-commented-on for a certain period of time.

I'll get on making the forum area right now.

Roger -Dot- Lee, Darned good idea there, Rick.

Getting Steady to start it may be tough...he's not around...

Maybe remove the Anniversary Forum to make room, and make that Rickter thread are a bit taller (don't push your luck there Rick)...

Been there, done that, on both.

The only differences are:
  1. It's under Station News instead of on its own and
  2. I won't need an email from anyone that posts, since I now have it set up to email both myself AND Jim for when a post gets inserted. That way we can both keep an eye on things within our sphere of influence.

Missed by about 12 hours, Stan.

I was hoping you'd put in the first thread in the new "Corrections to the Playlist" forum. It just didn't seem right having someone else get the first post in the forum that's a direct offshoot of your thread by that same name.
