I think an album like Electric Ladyland really deserve a place on AM, first because this is great, and even if this were not to be, as a legend, in my opinion.

Neil Young's Harvest is great - not on AM.
the Beatles White Album is great - not on AM.
Tom Petty's Wildflowers is great - not on AM.
etc.

hey, isn't hendrix that sort of Smart-rock you said, Yesspaz ? Isn't Electric ladyland a little bit prog ? Songs like Voodoo Chile, 1983 A mermaid turned to be ? I would lioke to know what Jim and Avian think about it, so if the therefore mentioned ppl see it...
And don't tell me that every track of AM is prog.

Correct - that's my point - although it's not all prog, Jim and Avian do a good job of putting what's appropriate on here, that's all that matters.
Please don't invoke that smart-rock thing, that gives me a headache!!!!!!!!!!!! - Hendrix is rock, pure and simple.
Let me turn this around - why is it necessary to have Hendrix on the moon? Is it that important?
I think we have too much gray area as it is.......

I am totally pleased with AM as it is and am happy to let Jim and Avian keep doing what they are doing. I also would like to state that I prefer to hear newer music since I'd rather get excited with the present rather than the past. But I also enjoy the old classics on occasion.

I m not saying it's a matter of life and death to have hendrix, but since the section is called music suggestion , i suggest. Secondly, I like to hear the old classics, which for me are not old at all since I m 21.Thirdly, I thought if you compare hendrix with , let's say the Stones, you realize it's a little more than just basic rock, which is not, let's say, Kate Bush, or some tracks of Genesis, for instance.

There are a lot of listeners in you age range, and you do have a good point. I guess sometimes I see it from my 40 yr old perspective - that I've listened to the songs so much, or own them.
I'm deferring this out to to the lords and leeches of the station.......
what do you think?

I think this is the wisest way to do, and besides the only way since I can't add it myself ;)

Just a thought: if the big cheeses were to add Jimi to the playlist, what's to stop other listeners from requesting Cream, The Who and other bands that are in a similar vein (namely that of rock and heavy metal). If Jimi was to be added , i think it would ultimately result in letting lots of rock and metal onto the playlist, which would kindof detract from the whole ethos behind this station.
Imagine, one day you log on only to find "The Boys are Back In Town" and "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" blaring out at you. As much as I like Rock of all ages, when I come to the Moon I expect to hear Prog and its derivatives, not rock and its derivatives. Therefore I find myself on the anti-hendrix side of this debate. Still, it is in the lap of the Gods now....

I've debated adding a song or two of Hendrix in the past, and haven't done so yet. One of these days, I'll probably listen to a bunch of his stuff, and MAYBE pick out a handful or fewer of the most eclectic stuff he did and add it. Maybe. Someday.
It won't be the classic rock radio fodder, regardless of how much I like Hendrix. I'll post about it in advance most likely.
I enjoy adding the odd song from artists not considered mainstream prog - but the overwhelming bulk of our playlist will always be progressive.

Ah Yes, Jim, the voice of reason. Speaking of the odd song from and artist, what about Starrider by Foreigner?

great post by Cheeky. hit the nail right on the head, I'd say.
I would submit that before we start adding songs like "Starrider", some of the music such as old Styx is added. The first Foreigner album came out as I was a high school freshman, so you know it is a special record for me. However, Starrider's just a cool rock song really.
I mean, I'm still cheesed off that "Closer To Home" by GFR is in here. One of my all time favorite tunes, but really just rock.
It seems like Jim has it in perspective.

Actually, I've only heard the song once. They opened for Journey a while back and played it. It stuck out of the setlist for me because it wasn't typical Foreigner. So if it's just a cool song, I'll take your word for it.
Oh, and sorry RnR, but it was I that suggested Jim add "Closer to Home/I'm Your Captain." Unfortunately, he added the edit . I happen to know he's got the full version ;) so it's just a matter of time till the full 10 version is on. Rick, you can blame me.
Oh, and thanks for the GYBE! concert. Nice quality.

I was in the car, I really couldn't tell, thanks.
I need to remember, one GFR is better than none!

I'd say I have to agree. I LIKE Hendrix. I have since I first saw the film of him doing the Star Spangled Banner at the Monterey Pops (Jazz?) Festival in the early 70s or so. I mean it was the only time that I'd stood for the SSB from 1975 (end of the Vietnam War) until well into the 80s.
But I'm not sure that he belongs here. I definitely come here for progressive rock, and for all that Jimi is and was, he's not, in my humble opinion, progressive.
He IS missed, though. He could have gone a long way had he not ODed....

I wrote an article for a magazine called Clear Future that had exactly one run (the article was about King Crimson's Discipline and it's influence).
For the next issue (that never happened), I wrote another article about a parallel musical universe based on the Hendrix-Emerson link happening.
Jim and Keith have read it, I'll e-mail it to you. It's quite goofy.
